Young Adults Population The population I have chosen for my discussion is young adults. Young adults are defined as persons between 18 and 34 and considered in good health, subject neither to disease nor complications associated with old age. This population has a wide range of health characteristics and needs. In recent years, there has been growing concern about the overall health of young adults. A variety of factors has influenced morbidity rates among this group. Mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, have surged in prevalence, often due to stressors associated with transitioning into adulthood, including education, employment, and relationships (Westberg et al., 2022). Substance abuse, including alcohol and drug misuse, remains a significant concern among young adults, contributing to morbidity and mortality. Risky sexual behaviors and the transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) also pose health threats. Mortality rates among young adults are generally lower than in older populations, but accidents, including motor vehicle accidents, remain a leading cause of death in this age group. Homicide and suicide also contribute to mortality, with young adults at a higher risk than other age groups. Health behaviors in young adults vary widely. While some adopt healthy lifestyles, others may engage in unhealthy behaviors, including poor dietary choices and inadequate physical activity (Bafaageh & Loux, 2022). These habits can contribute to obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and other chronic health conditions. Substance abuse and risky sexual behaviors are more prevalent among particular subgroups, further exacerbating health disparities. Barriers to accessing healthcare can also impact the overall health of young adults. Lack of health insurance coverage, financial constraints, and limited awareness of available resources can deter young adults from seeking preventive care or managing health conditions (Coombs et al., 2021). Also, mental health issues' stigma may discourage some from seeking the necessary support and treatment. Overall, health promotion young adults should focus on promoting mental health awareness, providing accessible and affordable healthcare services, and addressing the unique health challenges this population faces. Education and outreach programs can be crucial in encouraging healthy behaviors and reducing risk factors, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for young adults.
