NERVOUS SYSTEM While there are many providers that you may see for nervous system disorders and concerns, the main provider for the nervous system is called a Neurologist. Upon finishing medical school, Neurologists complete one year of residency in internal medicine and at least three years of neurology residency.(John Hopkins) Other providers that you may see for the nervous system are ; Neurosurgeon, orthopedic surgeon, physiatrist, and rheumatologist. When billing and coding for a neurologist you may find the following websites very helpful for information on neurological codes. Icd10cmtool.cdc.gov Aapc.com (paid website with a free trial) When reviewing a chart note be sure to look for all of the neurology-related words and diagnoses to ensure you are not missing anything. Then look up the specific codes using one of the tools from the websites above. For example, if the chart note states " concussion without unconsciousness " you could go to icd10cmtool.gov and on the upper left type in concussion and it will give you all related codes. Next, you will click on the icd10 code with the blue hyperlink and open it up. There you will be able to see that the code you are looking for is S06.0X0 Concussion without loss of consciousness
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM An endocrinologist is a provider whose specialty is in endocrinology, a field of medicine that studies conditions related to hormones. Cleveland Clinic) When billing and coding for an endocrinologist it is very important to understand what condition you are billing for the specific type of condition. For example, there are many different types of conditions that fall under "Diabetes" E08 - Diabetes mellitus due to underlying condition E09 Drug or chemical induced diabetes mellitus E10 Type I diabetes mellitus E11 Type 2 diabetes mellitus E13 other specified diabetes mellitus To be able to code properly for the endocrine system you can utilize E.H.R. system within the chart to pull up various icd10 codes and cpt codes.

MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM An Orthopedic provider specializes in the musculoskeletal system conditions and diseases. This includes diagnosing and treating injuries, rehabilitation and advice on how to reduce continued damage. I found an amazing resource for orthopedic billing and coding at https://coa.org/2018/presentations/88.pdf . A biller and coder can find much information online when looking for specific ICD10 and CPT codes.
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM For females, the main provider for the reproductive system are called Gynecologists. For conditions with the male reproductive system the main provider is called a uurologist. (Planned Parenthood) A biller and coder can locate information on the reproductive system within the medical records software that the providers are using, they can use an icd10 index such as icd10cmtool.cdc.gov to locate codes after looking over the chart note.
DERMATOLOGICAL SYSTEM The main provider for the dermatological system is called a dermatologist. Dermatologists are providers who deal with all conditions on the skin, hair, and nails. As a billing and coding specialist, you will learn that the practice you work for will have codes that they bill on a regular basis. The longer you work the more familiar you will be with the most frequently used codes for your providers. The aad.org has a coding resource center that is available to anyone to use. Just like with any other specialty, you are able to use the electronic medical records software to look up codes as well if you have enough information in the chart note.
