M elissa Rudy is a health editor for Fox News. She has a Ph.D. in molecular biology. Is the author a researcher in this field? Yes, she is a researcher in the field who has done several studies on infectious disease. Has the author been published in other journals? Yes, she has been featured in publications by the American Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. 2. Publisher: Organization or Sponsor Credibility is also dependent on the publisher of the article. There are many ways to publish articles these days, such as organizations, sponsors, academic journals, and more. Write one or two sentences to address the following prompts: Who is the publisher? The publisher is Fox News. What else do they publish? This should be located on their website. Fox News publishes national and international news, specifically focusing on business and politics. What evidence do you have to trust this publisher? Fox News does hire experts in the field to discuss and print information on specific topics. The caveat is that there is usually a political bias. As a rule, it is best to avoid public websites, which end in .com . Does this media end in .org (professional organization), .edu (educational organization), or .gov (government agency)? T he website does end in .com, foxnews.com . 3. Point of View or Bias Credible resources generally support an idea, but the idea should not derive from bias. Write one or two sentences to address potential bias. Does the author seem biased? T he author does express political bias surrounding the issues. 4. Intended Audience Audience is fundamental to the credibility of a resource because the author will be writing directly to this audience. Write one or two sentences addressing the audience of the resource. Who is the audience? The audience is the general public, likely conservatives that align with the ideology of the publisher. 5. Content Accuracy of content should be determined before the information is disseminated to others. Write one or two sentences to address the accuracy of the content. Is the information covered fact, opinion, or propaganda? The information covered caters to political propaganda. It may include some facts however it largely focuses on the political aspects more than health. On what did you base your answer? I based my answer on the mention on political officials and other propaganda included in the article. How do you know if the content is accurate? The content has been highly discredited by the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. 6. Currency Research changes and evolves all the time; therefore, current articles are more credible than dated articles. Exceptions to this include articles and concepts that are foundational to a field of study. Write one or two sentences addressing the currency of the article. Is this information current? The information is not current. The article in question was printed in 2021. Is this a resource that is frequently updated, or is this a static resource?
