2 Seminar Integration Paper-Part 1 Prolific Counseling Group was founded August 15, 2019 by Brentney Lason Wiliams. The agency provides Mental health skill-building services goal-directed training to enable individuals to achieve and maintain community stability and independence in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment. Mental health skill-building must include goal- directed training in the following areas in order to qualify for reimbursement: functional skills and appropriate behavior related to the individual’s health and safety; activities of daily living, and use of community resources; assistance with medication management; and monitoring health, nutrition, and physical condition. The mission of Prolific Counseling Group, LLC. is committed to assisting and educating individuals suffering from mental illness with symptom management, while enabling those individuals to achieve and maintain community stability. The mission is based on Respect, Equality, and Compassion for the individuals that are served. The goal is to engage members of the community while building partnerships to identify and assist with linking individuals to community resources that supports and mprove their quality of life. Services are built around the individual and family needs utilizing the person-centered approach incorporating the individual choices,values, strengths, and natural support systems and community. Prolific Counseling Group LLC does not have any specific external affiliation, however the agency does collaborate with community organizations such as the local Community Services Board, Psychiatric Hospitals, Social Services, Courts and any other entities looking to identify services for clients who were hospitalized for mental health related symptoms or disorders. Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) and Department of Behavirorl Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) are also affiliates of the agency as they oversee the services being provided by all behaviroal health agencies in the state of Virginia.

The limited liability company (LLC) is a corporate organization that safeguards its proprietors from being personally pursued for repayment of the corporation's liabilities or legal responsibility. As mentioned above the CEO/owner is Brentney Williams. The board of directors and adminstrative team includes Betina Guynn Ross,Clinical Director, Deshay Edwards-Program Director, LCSW , Norine Patrick-Clinical Supervisor, LPC , Zwayne McInnis- Office Manager , and a team of qualified mental professionals who is hands on with the clients on a day to day basis. Policies and Procedures are regulated by DBHDS and Ms. Williams as the owner has to ensure that the policies and procedures are in compliance with DBHDS/DMAS regulations. Every year she is responsible for the development of all policies and procedures implemented within the structure of her agency. Policies are impacted on the state and federal level DMAS(Department of Medical Assistance Services) Virginia Medicaid governs the policies put into place for providers to provide behavioral health treatment to help members avoid a crisis, as well as services to support recovery. Prolific Counseling Group demonstrate cultural sensitivity in the workplace by implementing guidelines and policies around what is considered culturally acceptable behavior, in particular when it comes to cultural discrimination. The policies define what acceptable behavior is and is not and what consequences exist for employees if they choose to disregard policy. Prolific Counseling Group make sure that all employees, including company leadership and front-line employees, are aware of what constitutes discrimination based on an individual’s culture through quarterly and annual trainings.The agency recieves its funding from Mediciad MCO’s and private pay. Direct services provided in the agency are psychosocial rehabilitation facilitated by Qualified Mental Health Porfessionals, intensive outpatient subtance abuse treatment program facilitated

4 by a cerrtified substance abuse counselors through the board of counseling in Department of Health Professionals. Individuals being admitted into services will have demonstrated a clinical necessity for the service arising from a condition due to mental, behavioral, or emotional illness that results in significant functional impairments in major life activities. Services are provided to individuals who require individualized training to achieve or maintain stability and independence in the community. Individuals will be 21 and over and must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for mental health services: The individual shall have one of the following as a primary Axis I DSM diagnosis: Schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder as set out in the DSM,Major Depressive Disorder – Recurrent; Bipolar I; or Bipolar I .The screening process will include a preliminary determination of eligibility for services, a screening for emergency needs and/or referrals, a brief screening process and referral of the individual to the most appropriate program for admission. Incoming referrals will be accepted by CEO/Clinical Director/QMHP/designee via in person, phone, letter, email, or mail an attempt will be made to contact the individual within 24-72 hours from receiving the referral. If there is availability the individual will be provided with a prescreening interview to determine if the individual meets criteria for services. Pre-Screening interview will be a brief 30-45-minute interview face to face or meet and greet with designated staff to verify Medicaid or other insurances or form of payment. Assist the individual with completing the Referral form with a series of questions consisting of Identifying information such as Medicaid insurance card, state issued ID and other pertinent records. Client progress is measured by utilizing Individual Service Plan or treatment plans which is developed based on the comprehensive assessment and person centered approach. Allowing the client to implement their own preferences, needs and values to be developed into clinical decisions, and providing care that is respectful of and responsive to them and their treatment plan. Client
5 progress is also measured by the observations of the counselor providing the services and documented daily in what is called a progress note. Discharge is voluntary and involuntary depdening on the compliance and comprehnsive ability of the client being provided the service. A written discharge summary will be completed within 30 days of discharge and will include, at a minimum reason for admission and discharge, individual’s participation in discharge planning, progress made achieving the goals and objectives identified in the individualized services plan and summary of critical events during service provision, and discharge date. Clients who do not meet the legal criteria or not cooperative with the program will be referred out to other resources in the community such as the local CSB or higher echelon of care. Technology is used to conduct telehealth sessions via ZOOM and to document electronically the daily progress, lack of progress, or regresssion of the clients being serviced in the agency. . The agency is very committed to the community and surrounding areas it serves. The agency views the ommunity support and participation as a way to create positive change.This is an integral part of the program’s development and implementation of quality services.The agency is always seeking to connect with key community leaders and groups in their surroundings. This helps to build trust between the agency and the community the agency is serving. There are many social justice issues that peaks the intrest of this agency. A few issues includes racism, equity, education, healthcare, immigration, and LGBTQ+ rights.The agency also strives to service the Indigenous populations. Transgender youth also a have higher rates of suicide which is why agencies such as Ms. Williams are important to help combat these social injustices that impacts mental health of the oprressed populations. The internal barriers within the agency are the conditions, policies, or attitudes that prevent or make it difficult for marginalized populations to independently and confidently access
6 services. The external barriers to accessing social services would be lack of transportation, or transportation services are minimal. The agency is very careful not to duplicate services by coordinating care with other treating providers and communicating monthly or quarterly regarding the services being provided and making a collaborative effort to provide wrap around services to the clients in care and to ensure services are not being duplicated. The role of the social worker/counselor/QMHP-A at the ageny is the following: providing services on an intensive basis utilizing short-term, solution focused treatment strategies to clients and families. Individuals are required to facilitates care coordination with other service providers. The social worker prepares written service plans and treatment update summaries, incorporating input from clients, other service providers, wraparound team members to identify problem areas and needs, service objectives, and intervention strategies. The social can also perform a lost of duties such as responds to crisis situations with twenty-four hour a day availability, complete progress reports in reference to service delivery within 48 hours, utilize Lauris (Electronic Medical Record system) and other web-based software for all clinical documentation, record keeping, and coordination, and attend court hearings and probationary meetings when families are court-involved and presents testimony and treatment recommendations as requested by attorneys, referral source, the court, or clients.
