1.
Which site did you choose and why?
I chose the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute site for the topic titled “What is Asthma?”. I
chose this site because I think asthma is an interesting topic and my brother also lives with it.
2.
What medication did you choose? What classification does the medication fall under?
I chose a Long-term control medicine named Corticosteroids.
3.
Does it indicate the mechanism of action and clinical indications?
Corticosteroids reduce inflammation in the body.
4.
Is there concern regarding side effects or interactions that the patient should be educated about?
How would you present this to the patient?
Yes, if taking the pill form over time, high doses of corticosteroids can raise the risk of cataracts or
osteoporosis. If using the inhaled form of corticosteroids some common side effects include a hoarse
voice or thrush.
I would present this to the patient by letting them know about this before prescribing either form. I
would recommend maybe going back and forth between the two forms of corticosteroids or going with a
different medication altogether.
