relieve moderate to severe pain after surgery
May inhibit prostaglandin synthesis to produce
anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic
effects
-PO-give with food
-IV-give over 15 seconds, protect
from light
-IM-patient may feel pain at site,
apply pressure after injection
Intranasal-activate pump before
first use, patient should blow nose
first and sit upright
headache, dizziness, drowsiness, edema, HTN, nasal discomfort,
rhinitis, throat irritation, renal impairment, GI pain, nausea,
constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, prolonged bleeding time, rash,
pain at injection site
nurse should reevaluate pain after administration of medication
to determine if pain has decreased.
-take a sip of water after using nasal
spray
-do not take with other NSAIDS
-seek medical attention if
experiencing chest pain, SOB or
trouble breathing
-maintain adequate fluid intake,
-report edema and weight gain
-take orally with food

drug-lifestyle:alcohol, smoking
-correct hypovolemia before giving,
watch for and immediately
-evaluate signs and symptoms of
heart attack (chest pain, SOB,
trouble breathing) or stroke
patient with hypersensitivity, children younger than 17, patients
with cerebrovascular bleeding, history of peptic ulcer disease,
patient currently receiving aspirin or other NSAIDs
