The local population's income distribution influences their demand for emergency care by it being a necessity, well as how income inconsistency affects access to and use of these services. When it comes to price changes of local emergency care services it is how consumers react which should be positive because emergency care services are needed. This will allow the board to see that consumers care about the importance of community services. Pricing strategies can be crucial when it comes to setting the proper and depending on the impact of insurance coverage. When it comes to insurance it can change the consumer in many ways like reducing financial barriers and affecting consumer behavior to accessing emergency care due to insurance coverage. Cost efficiency is how efficiently emergency care providers use resources to deliver quality services. Reimbursements and sustainable service provision can lead to more effective use when lowering costs without compromising patient care. Health outcome measures are where the focus on the impact of emergency care on the patient's health and well-being. When providing high-quality care, health outcomes improve indicate reimbursements are being effectively used. PROMs stand for patient-reported outcome measures received by emergency care. The patients' reported outcomes being monitored will help the value of and can help gauge the effectiveness. In conclusion, supply and demand and quality measures will help with expansion of emergency care. Price changes can affect consumers if they do not benefit them. So, with the local emergency care services expansion it will be to benefit the consumer the price should not matter long as the quality of service is great. Also, behavioral relationships which individual factors can strengthen these forces by increase or decrease such as incomes and tastes on the demand side (Hicks, 2021). If the consumer is satisfied, they will pay the price or cost of the services received. Patients are the consumers that keep the emergency room open. Emergency Rooms are for convince and emergency care that every community needs. Drop-in basis or by appointments is the structures the demand can be (Lillrank, 2010). The length of encounters and on-site workflow to optimize case closure (Lillrank, 2010). When it comes to emergency rooms, patients want to be seen quickly, get an accurate diagnosis, and treatment. There is a high level of competition among local hospitals and large clinics providing emergency care services and each offers different services. The services and equipment can be costly. The monopolistic competition model analyzes results and implications of competition in price and quality (Hicks, 2021). The local emergency care near MUSC Health Fairfield is Prisma Health which is also known as a trauma hospital with the best emergency care around the Columbia, SC surrounding areas. The MUSC Health Fairfield Emergency Room is equipped to handle emergency health issues, but not that cases that may require the advanced care of a full-service hospital. The ER can stabilize the patient to reduce additional injury and then transfer them to the proper facility (MUSC). Prisma offers high-quality emergency services, including Level I Trauma Centers at Prisma Health Richland Hospital (Prisma). Which means Prisma has a full- service hospital. Lexington Medical Center is not as advanced as Prisma, but also offers full-
service hospital. The expansion is to get more rooms for more detailed services such as peds and cardiology service to be provided to the community. Which will allow the community not to have to drive 20 or more miles away to get the service that is needed immediately. Listed are three local emergency rooms in 30-minute radius of Winnsboro, SC. I am in Winnsboro, SC which is about 30-45 minutes away from metro areas. The location in Winnsboro is MUSC Health Fairfield Imaging and Emergency. The next location that is Prisma Health Richland Hospital Emergency Room which is 23.9 miles away approximately 20-25 minutes away from Winnsboro, SC. The third location is Lexington Medical Center Emergency Room which is 25.2 miles away which about 30-40 minutes away from Winnsboro, SC. All local locations from MUSC, Prisma, and Lexington can see children for emergency care. The only facility that is fully qualified and equipped for anything that may happen to a child in an emergency is Prisma because they do have a children's hospital connected to the emergency room. The Children’s Emergency Center of Prisma is in Columbia, SC is staffed with doctors and nurses educated, trained, and certified in pediatric emergency medicine as well as child life specialists to help children cope with fears (Prisma, 2023). The emergency center has 13 examination rooms, a pediatric resuscitation room and two trauma bays feature customized child-sized technology and equipment (Prisma, 2023). All the emergency centers are capable of stabilizing patients with cardiac issues. The emergency care facility equipped and qualified for cardiology specialty services is Prisma because it has a Heart Hospital connecting to the emergency room. This will allow the patient to be quickly taken care of in case they need emergency surgency or attention. The market for emergency care services in nearby cities is highly competitive. The model used is monopolistic competition, used to analyze results and implications due to competition in price and quality results (Hicks, 2021). There are several hospitals and large clinics such as urgent cares that offer emergency care, and patients have a variety of options to choose from. With the competition it helps to keep prices down and ensures that patients have access to excellent care. The facility offers just as much as a full functioning hospital which includes: six exam rooms including two trauma rooms, onsite laboratory, Imaging Services: CT scan, Ultrasound, X- ray, specially trained emergency medicine professionals, and “Pull to full” processes, which means not having patients waiting in lobby, but are in a room as soon as possible (MUSC). So, the expansion will help the community, and the emergency center grow by showing the goods and services that the expansion can offer. I will analyze the supply and demand that is needed and used at MUSC Health Fairfield Emergency and Imaging. While stating and justifying three primary questions that economists should be asking. I will show proof of how MUSC Health Fairfield Emergency and Imaging is helping the community. Last, I will describe three quality measures that should be used within
the organization.
