It is a dual classification system for both topography and morphology tumors. Topography describes sit of origin and morphology describes cell type of tumor. Topography has four-character codes being with a C, site, decimal point, and subsite. Morphology has 5-digit codes – the first four digits indicate the specific histologic term. The fifth digit after the / is a behavior code, a separate code for grading.

Accession register – annual, sequential listing of all reportable cancers and reportable by agreement cases included in the registry.
Reportable list – identifies all diagnoses and types of cases to be included in the cancer registry database/should specify which diagnoses are non-reportable.
Case finding – the systematic process of identifying all cases of a disease eligible to be included in the registry database for a defined population.
Suspense file – an inventory or document identifying potentially reportable cases that have not been abstracted.
Core information – name, age, gender, ethnicity, birthplace Analytic case – A category of class of case that indicates that the cancer was initially diagnosed and/or treated at a specific healthcare facility and is eligible for inclusion in that registry's statistical reports of treatment efficacy and survival.
Non-analytic case – a category of class of case that indicates the case was referred to the reporting facility for recurrence or subsequent therapy after the cancer was initially diagnosed and treated at another facility.
