Evidence Based Practice- Corrective Exercise Step 1: After reading the title of the paper, form a hypothesis. Do you think one intervention is going to be more beneficial than the other? Elaborate in one to two sentences. Upon reading the title I feel like the reasonable choice would be to choose the corrective exercises of America’s National Academy of Sports Medicine. Therefore, I will assume that the corrective exercises intervention will garner greater results. Step 2: Read the article posted “Comparing the effects of the Corrective Exercises of America’s National Academy of Sports Medicine and Pilates on the Correction of Lordosis among Female High School Students in Golestan Province in 2018” Step 3: Briefly describe the findings from this paper. Describe how the two interventions that were implemented differed from one another. What were the recommendations made by the authors? The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of NASM corrective exercises and Pilates on the correction of lumbar lordosis with the population tested being high school age females. The findings of this paper describe success in reducing the angle of lumbar hyper lordosis in both NASM and Pilates when it comes to females with a lordosis angle of 30- degrees or more. However, where they differ is it was found that NASM was more successful than Pilates in reducing the lordosis angle, although both were successful, NASM was found to be more successful. Lastly, recommendations from the author state that the NASM was more successful and if applicable should be the one prioritized in order to correct lumbar lordosis. Critical Thinking : In the limitations, the authors state that participants menstrual cycles affected exercise performance, speculate how this may have impacted the results. The menstrual cycle commonly experiences hormonal changes that can affect mood and energy levels. This applies to this study because this could have an effect on motivation and how much effort the girls put into their exercises. All in all, the menstrual cycle is a factor that can impact how women feel and perform during exercise.
