How are these interventions trauma-informed?
These interventions are trauma-informed because they take into account the client’s trauma and its impact on her behavior, mental health, and ability to engage in treatment (Marschall, 2023). These interventions are tailored to Felicity’s specific needs and hopefully they provide emotional safety for her as well (Marschall, 2023).
How are these interventions goal-based?
These interventions are goal-based because they can help Felicity improve her emotional wellbeing, build resilience, and develop better coping skills (Healios, 2022). They will give the client something to strive for in order to better their
current situation. We can check in on progress toward these goals during our meetings and make any adjustments as needed.
How will these selected interventions best address client needs?
These interventions will best address Felicity’s needs by helping her make progress toward finding stable and safe housing, finding a better job and gaining financial stability, working on bettering her mental health, and learning how to best cope with grief.
Why would other interventions not address client needs?
There are many options for interventions, and these are all just starting points Felicity. She is already going through a lot, feeling overwhelmed, alone, and having difficulty managing daily tasks on her own. I don’t want to pile more onto her plate by giving her every single option all at once. We can go through these options together one at a time to see if they feel manageable for her. From there, we can look into other interventions as needed. B. Cultural Responsiveness
How do the interventions and referrals take into account differing demographics?
The interventions and referrals take into account differing demographics because many of them welcome individuals who encompass a variety of age, gender, race,
and sexual orientation. Centre Counseling & Wellness shares, “We pride ourselves on staying on the cutting edge of the science of psychology and human growth. In doing so we engage in ongoing supervision and training so that we are able to provide competent care for people of all races, ethnicities, socio-economic

statuses, sexual orientations, ability, and religious beliefs. In all your complexities
you are welcome here.”
How do the interventions and referrals not take into account differing
demographics?
Some of these referrals are Christian based or for women only so they would be limiting to certain demographics.
How can the interventions and referrals further take into account demographics?
While looking for emergency housing options for women, I came across a bunch of different community resources that only mentioned eligibility for women and children of domestic abuse. It was difficult to locate a resource for emergency housing that allowed single woman who have been evicted from their homes and are struggling financially in general. Also, multiple supports groups through churches only mentioned situations including couples or families or loss of a spouse. Eventually I was able to find a more general grief support group.
What is the importance of interventions and referrals utilizing cultural responsiveness?
It is important for the interventions and referrals to utilize cultural responsiveness to show that they understand cultural differences, recognize potential biases, and are able to look beyond any differences to work productively with clients whose cultural background differs from their own (Child Welfare Information Gateway, n.d.). It also allows them to respond respectfully and effectively to all clients in a
manner that recognizes, affirms, and values their worth (Child Welfare Information Gateway, n.d.).
C. Community Resources
Centre Counseling & Wellness
– has Christian based counselors who are specialized in treating individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD,
as well as grief and loss (Centre Counseling & Wellness, 2018). Many of the counselors use a cognitive behavioral approach to treatment, which can help Felicity to learn necessary coping skills and how to cope with unhelpful thoughts and feeling (Centre Counseling & Wellness, 2018).
Individual Therapy
Group Therapy
GriefShare
– holds seminars and support groups held at Christ Community Church
that are led by individuals who have gone through loss of their own and understand what that feels like (GriefShare, 2023).
Grief support group
Rainbow Bridge Pet Loss Grief Center (online)
– Provides a virtual pet loss forum,
where you can discuss your loss with others, and pet loss chatroom, which is open 24 hours a day where you can receive more personal contact with others who have lost a pet (Rainbow Bridge Pet Loss Grief Center, 2023). Other resources are linked for individuals to use such as tips on how to cope, pet loss hotlines, and suggestions to help with grieving during the holidays (Rainbow Bridge Pet Loss Grief Center, 2023).
Grief Support
Housing Transitions
– Centre House provides shelter and food to clients who are experiencing homelessness or in crisis, but also guidance to reach a more stable housing future and there is no charge to stay there (Housing Transitions, 2016). In addition to housing goals, the Centre House Case Manager works with each individual to set objectives for additional needs like employment and mental health referrals (Housing Transitions, 2016). Progress is regularly reviewed with the Centre House Case Manager and each resident is expected to work toward their goals and make progress during their stay (Housing Transitions, 2016).
Emergency Shelter Fusion Chiropractic & Acupuncture
- Stress reduction, depression, grief, and anxiety are some of the common conditions treated with acupuncture (Fusion Chiropractic & Acupuncture, 2013).
Alternative Medicine
The Tapping Solution
– available as an app on the phone. Tapping, commonly known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a stress relief technique based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology (The Tapping Solution, 2023). There are available sessions that focus on depression, stress, anxiety, grief and loneliness.
Meditation
D. Gaps in Service
There are no year-round local support groups for loss of pets. GriefShare meets weekly, but only for 13 weeks from August through November (GriefShare, 2023). As I was researching, I was led to a virtual support group for pet loss for

Pennsylvania residence, but it was $350 6-week program. Additionally, Felicity’s community lacks Acupuncturists that accept medical assistance. The closest two options are both over an hour away.
E. Monitoring
At this time, it would be beneficial to check in with Felicity on a weekly basis. She
only has 3 months to pack all of her things and move out of her friend’s house and still does not know where she is going to live next. Since this is the most urgent issue, I want to make sure we are doing everything that we can to ensure that Felicity does not end up homeless, especially during the cold winter months coming up. For this and other concerns, an optimal time to assess the plan’s adequacy and efficacy would be in a couple months from now. Housing is going to
be a bug hurdle to get through and I want to make sure that we are also keeping tabs on Felicity’s mental health as we try to navigate through each step of the care plan.
F. Contingency Plan
What will be the plan if crisis reoccurs?
It will be important to have a crisis plan set in place should Felicity find herself in
crisis again. This plan should include emergency resources such as hotline numbers, her counselor’s phone number, and phone numbers of individuals in her support system that have offered to be available when needed. There should be steps to follow clearly written out for Felicity to easily read them in time of crisis so that she doesn’t have to try to think through what she needs to do during a crisis situation. These steps can include things like who to call first, what to do to
seek help from professionals, and identifying behaviors in the moment. A local resource to include in the plan is Centre Helps. Centre Helps serves as Centre County’s information and referral line by assisting community members in finding resources to answer questions that they have or to aid in situations that they are going through (Centre Helps, n.d.). There is a 24 hour hotline, available for use via call or text, for many needs such as help with medical expenses, addiction struggles, or if someone is in crisis (Centre Helps, n.d.). Centre Helps also serves as the local call center for the national suicide prevention lifeline (Centre Helps, n.d.).
How will you address further social, emotional, developmental, and economical decline?
Since Felicity and I will we be meeting weekly at this time, I will be able to check
her progress each week. I think one of the most important things for anyone to have is a strong support system. Researchers have said that having a strong support system has many positive benefits such as higher levels of well-being and
better coping skills, and it has also been proven to reduce depression, anxiety, and
stress (Hood, 2020). I want to work with her early on to identify members of her support system that she can trust and rely on not only in times of need or crisis, but for everyday friendships and interactions. After Felicity identifies friends and family to be part of her support system, I think it will be necessary for me to help Felicity reach out to them to let them know what she has been going through. Since she has been self-isolating and her mental health makes it difficult to reach out to friends and family like she wants to, and they don’t reach out to her either,
she needs to start reconnecting. I would also encourage her to tell them exactly what she needs, so they know to check in with her whenever they can and help hold her accountable when trying to make progress.
How will you address social and emotional triggers?
I would remind Felicity to avoid certain people, places, and situations until she has developed appropriate coping skills and practiced executing them successfully. I would also recommend that she reach out to members from her support system to talk through situations when she is initially presented with one of her triggers. Additionally, this would be a good time for Felicity to use a resource such as tapping meditations on her phone to give her something else to focus on and help calm her nervous system. She can be guided through a 4-minute
session of simply tapping and breathing to tune into her body and move the focus there instead of her trigger.
How would you address neighborhood erosion?
The best way to address gentrification is to create awareness about the issue and how it affects individuals living in a particular neighborhood. While transforming a city neighborhood from low value to high value can be beneficial to reduce crime rates, create new business and housing opportunities, and stabilize the local economy, it typically has a negative impact on low-income individuals who are displaced from their original neighborhoods (Picardo, 2022).
