Kelsey Miller ELM-480 03/10/2023 Instructor Candelaria Clinical Field Experience A: Using Technology and Media in the Classroom I was able to spend some time in a Michele Provances’ elementary classroom. During that’s days lesson she had the students pair off and use their iPads to solve an online scavenger hunt. The assessment was online in Canvas and the students would work together to answer the questions created that went along with the book they just had read in social studies. For the last week or so they have been doing a crossover between the two classes. Using technology in her class along with the others are a common practice now more than ever. During the assignment Michele has used her Mac book and projector to show the students how to access Canvas and find the assignment. From there she had modeled the first question with the students and then allowed then to work in pairs. All of the use of technology was use positively. It was used to contribute to the class, preform the assignment, and help engage the students through the entire class. Using the technology bright a layer of depth and creativity that would have not been there otherwise. This help encourage the pairs to stay busy, contribute to the post discussion, and additional questions that my not be posed otherwise. I would have not used any additional technology that was or was not involved within the lesson that Michele instructed. I believe that she did a great job of showing how to use multiple type of technology while still keeping it simple enough to have students interested and able to understand what they were being asked. The only thing that I could think that might have helped the students any would have had all of the answers with an app or website. However, I prefer the way she had done, since it encourages students to navigate the internet and learn how it works. At the beginning of each year the school district requires that teachers send a technology agreement home with the students and for their parents to go over it with them. It is to be signed by both and returned. Despite that Mrs. Provance also goes over safe, legal, and ethical use of technology. Within this she goes off the consequences of violating this technology agreement and the restrictions placed upon the student. She also walks through the room while they are working on iPads to see what they are doing. I always learn a lot each time I am in Mrs. Provances’ class. She shows many ways to keeps her students engaged and be create in her lesson plans. More so, in the lesson I have talked about, how to use technology to help create an engaging lesson while teaching the ELA standards. I will use all pf the information that I gain from her and her insight to better teacher
my future students. Using technology as a main tool and resources to help me in my instruction and also my students learning.
