Using the week 1 & 2 lectures and Modules 1 and 2 in Canvas, write a 500-
word referenced reflection on the following:
[Insert your reflections in the following boxes]
1. Workview [approximately 100 words]
Based on Wrzesniewski, et al., 1997, do you mostly see your future graduate work as a job, career or calling? Explain.
I see my future graduate work as a career. My ambition is to become an aspiring data scientist and based on
Amy Wrzesniewski ‘s article “Jobs, Careers, and Callings: People’s Relations to Their Work” I find my thoughts well aligned with career orientation rather than as a job or calling.
Wrzesniewski, et al., 1997
I see data science as not only a means of financial stability but also a pathway to personal growth and societal impact. From my earlier college days, I was always entertained
by the challenge of mastering complex analytical techniques, contributing to innovative projects and learning new skills. In my opinion, people who are career oriented generally become successful, gain financial freedom meanwhile maintaining personal satisfaction of the result of their hard work.
2. Professional Purpose [approximately 50 words]
Using this unit’s definition of Professional Purpose, share your draft statement here.
In respect to this unit’s definition of professional purpose statement – "My aim is to develop the most advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence to assist young ambitious entrepreneurs to enable them to uncover insights that may lead to knowledgeable decision making and innovation throughout the field."
3. Influences [approximately 350 words total]
Use the Systems Theory of Career Development (Patton & McMahon, 2015) to: a.
Identify one of your systems (i.e. Individual, Social, Environmental, or Chance and Change Over Time) that has influenced your Professional Purpose and/or Workview. Describe one specific element in that system that has particularly influenced you (e.g. geo-
graphic location in your Environmental System)
and describe how it has influenced either your
Professional Purpose, Workview or both
(e.g. growing up in a rural community witnessing lack of access to good health care influenced Professional Purpose because ….).
The system from the STP framework that I believe will have a significant impact on my workview is “
Chance and Change Over time
”.
(Patton & McMahon, 2015).
It has firstly helped me to realise that my workview is not fixed. As I learn and develop, it is continuously changing and evolving. Second, I've come to understand the importance of being open to unforeseen circumstances and opportunities thanks to the "chance and change over time" sys-
tem approach. It could result from an accidental meeting, a shift in the workplace, or even a personal crisis.
Overall, the "chance and change over time" system has made me a more realistic and optimistic about my workview. It has made me realize that I need to be flexible, adaptable, open to new opportunities, But it has also made me realize that anything is possible, and that I can achieve my goals if I am willing to work hard and never give up.
The one specific element that has influenced me heavily is the geographical location
. As a international student from Bangladesh I have experienced no advance technology usage, lack of efficiency and disputes in the technical area. My workview was only limited to my country.
When I went to University, I had the opportunity to move into Australia. This was a big change for me, and it ex-
posed me to a whole new world of possibilities.
I believe that my geographic location has given me a unique per-
spective on the world as I saw all the cutting-edge technology that had the potential to change the world and saw it working right in front of my very own eyes and meeting new people who share the same ideology.
b.
Identify one element from one of your systems that you plan to influence (or are already in-
fluencing) that relates to your Professional Purpose or Workview (e.g. skill development in Individual System to pursue professional purpose or supporting family in Social System via 2
Workview). Explain giving details. I plan to influence the social system
by befriending individuals who share my ideology and who are willing to help me in achieving my goals. I want to create a group of people that are enthusiastic about utilising technology to change the world. These connections, in my opinion, will support me in maintaining motivation, well align with my
professional purpose that is use technology to make a positive impact on the world. I believe that having a strong network of mentors and advisors who are experts in the field of technology will help me to achieve this purpose. These people can provide me with guidance, support, and advice as I work to make a difference in the world.

QUESTION 2
A company needs to choose one supplier for a particular type of silicon wafer used'in the production of
semiconductors. The company has three options. Supplier A sells the silicon wafers for $2.50 per wafer,
independently of the number of wafers ordered. Supplier B sells the wafers for $2.40 each but does not
consider an order for less than 2,000 wafers. Supplier C sells the wafers for $2.30 each but does not accept
an order for less than 3,000 wafers. Assume an order setup cost of $100 and an annual requirement of 20,000
wafers. Assume a 20% annual interest rate for holding cost calculations.
a. Which supplier should be chosen to minimize the total annual cost for the wafers, and what is the
optimal order quantity?
b. If the replenishment lead time for wafers…

Question 2
You are a biomedical engineer working for a small orthopaedic firm that fabricates rectangular shaped fracture
fixation plates from titanium alloy (model = "Ti Fix-It") materials. A recent clinical report documents some problems with the plates
implanted into fractured limbs. Specifically, some plates have become permanently bent while patients are in rehab and doing partial
weight bearing activities.
Your boss asks you to review the technical report that was generated by the previous test engineer (whose job you now have!) and used to
verify the design. The brief report states the following... "Ti Fix-It plates were manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and machined into
solid 150 mm long beams with a 4 mm thick and 15 mm wide cross section. Each Ti Fix-It plate was loaded in equilibrium in a 4-point bending
test (set-up configuration is provided in drawing below), with an applied load of 1000N. The maximum stress in this set-up was less than the
yield stress for the…
