What is a BFD? Block Flow Diagrams (BFD) are illustrations that show a general overview of the process using blocks, it also represents the relationship between the different parts of the process What is a PFD? Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) is a more detailed diagram of a process that shows the flow path around the process, it also includes the process variables, equipment symbol, the capacities of the equipment, and the control valves. What is a P&ID? Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) are similar to PFD but it has more detailed process information and contains a complete and detailed instrumentation. What is a UFD? Utility flow diagrams (UFD) are detailed diagrams of the utilities used in a process, they show how the utilities interact with the process as wheel the piping and instrumentations for those utilities What is the purpose of the Legend on the drawing? Is a section of the drawing that explains the meaning of the different symbols used on the diagram What are the Symbols used for the drawing? The symbols are simple Illustrations that represent actual equipment What are the different types of Actuators and their functions Manual actuators; they are operated by hand Pneumatic actuators; They are operated by air signal Motor actuators; they are operated by an electrical motor Hydraulic actuators; they are operated by fluid pressure Solenoid actuators; they are operated by energizing by an on/off electrical circuit. Actuators convert control signals into physical action, such as opening or closing valves, adjusting damper positions, or moving equipment How many different types of pump symbols are on diagram 2.13? There are 8 types of pumps: Centrifugal pump Rotary lobe pump Positive displacement pump Turbine-driven equipment Electric-motor driven pump Electric-motor driven variable positive displacement pump
Piston pump Vertical centrifugal or positive displacement pump What are plant instrumentation symbols used for on drawings? Plant symbols a used in P&ID to represent various measure and control instruments, like pressure gauges, flow meters, control valves, etc.
