The initial displacement, at t = 0 , is x 0 = -10 mm. What is the initial velocity? 2. The signal lights for a rail line may be modeled as an 80 kg mass mounted 3 m above ground on an elastic post. The natural frequency of the system is observed to be 12.2 Hz. Wind buffet generates a horizontal harmonic force F at 12 Hz. The light filaments will break if their peak acceleration exceeds 15g. Determine the maximum acceptable force amplitude |F| (assume ζ =0). 3. In the figure shown below, find the value of F o at which the mass m just loses contact with the table. Assume that m << M . Do this for two different forcing frequencies: w = w n and w = w n /2
