Purpose Statement
The purpose of this study is to provide recommendations to the leadership team at South Cobb High School
with possible solutions to the problem of African American students’ low algebra test scores on the Georgia End of Course Assessment for algebra. This study will comprise of both quantitative and qualitative data. My first approach will include Semi-structured interviews. These interviews will be conducted with a total of six participants from South Cobb High School. Two of the teachers are collaborative special education teachers for the math department, two general education teachers from the math department, one academic coach and one administrator. All participants are aware of the test scores from Georgia DOE for algebra and the history of students scoring in this area. My second approach will include surveys of four teachers from the math department, one academic coach and one administrator. The survey will be administered using a Likert scale and Google Form. The third approach will come from a collection of End of Course Scores analysis for Algebra. These documents will be retrieved from the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. Central Research Question
