I am currently co-teaching with the special service teacher an hour a day during math. Co-teaching has been a wonderful experience. Co- teaching has been beneficial to my students as well as myself. They
seem to really enjoy it and we have seen positive results in behavior, academics, and attitude. For my teacher interview, I chose to interview Mrs. Leah Blackburn, in-person, who teaches 4 th grade at J.U.Blacksher. She has two children, Connor and Brady whom also attend J.U.Blacksher where she teachers. Connor is a senior and Brady is a junior. Mrs. Blackburn loves her children attending where she works, she said it is such a convince in the mornings with her busy schedule. Mrs. Blackburn currently teaches 4 th grade math and science. In her previous teaching years she has been a 1 st grade math teacher, a math interventionist for kinder through 3 rd grade. She has taught 2 nd grade, 3 rd grade, 4 th grade, as well as 5 th grade all subjects. Mrs. Blackburn has a love for children which makes her job enjoyable for her almost every day. Her main joy in her job is changing children’s minds as well as their attitudes about math. She encourages students as well as helps the ones struggling so they do not find math to be so intimidating which is very important. She stated she once had a parents tell her she changed their child’s outlook on school just by helping the child make progress in math. Somethings Mrs. Blackburn wish she would had done more of while in school was how to teach standards and analyzing data followed by dealing with unruly parents and overall ow real life was as a teacher. I agree with the aspects in which she wishes she would have learned more of. Mrs. Blackburn’s first year challenges as a new teacher is something I am very stressed about. Time management and analyzing data to steer instruction is something I feel like I personally will struggle with as well. I also met Mrs. Blackburn’s co-teacher, Mrs. Nipper, and she was very delightful to be around. She had a very positive outlook on teaching and just being around the children in general. As a future teacher, I will say I strive to like Mrs. Blackburn. Her positive attitude within teaching and helping children
reach their full potential is something I deeply admire about her. This impacts her students as well. You can tell they are ready to learn in her classroom.
