Problem-based math task
Summary of task
This task is direct and straight forward. The teacher would model new material and skills for the
content being taught as launch, explore, and summarize. After teaching the new content the teacher would have students do a think, pair, share and shared understanding and checked for the understanding of the content that was taught. The teacher would use a guided learning approach with the whole group lesson and allow for students to break off for independent learning as well as partner discussions and partner work with their table groups. I feel as though
this would be done to deepen the understanding of the content that is taught and allow for the teacher to check in and see where students are when they went off on their own and with partners. In a sense, the teacher would have the students complete the lesson work out of their
Interactive Math workbooks and or worksheet, review sheets for DMR and closing or exit ticket and discussion as the summarize portion over the content as well for students to show their understanding of what was taught and learned. To sum up this as if it were a lesson or written as a lesson plan the students would be able to effectively use multiplication to multiply a fraction and a whole number. From there students will be able to identify the fraction with the highest value or “greater” than put into a mixed number for value. The students had chances to
summarize the learning that took place through asking questions in a summative and formative form. The students would participate in group discussion and learning as the lesson was presented today.

In my opinion I believe that this meets the quality of a quality task because it allows students to use critical thinking and the teacher to use launch, explore, and summarize in a structured lesson or learning environment. I feel as though the teacher could address the student’s prior knowledge and keep the students engaged throughout the lesson as well. The teacher can use the guides, practice, and collaboration with grade level team to ensure they are keeping the content clear and concise for all students and provide scaffolds for students in ways that aren’t necessarily apparent to many and include all students in the discussion and interactive part of the lesson. The teacher would have chances to interact with students and provided feedback as they move through the lesson and call on students to interact with the board and examples displayed as well too. The lesson looked at in the curriculum guide book had many lesson ideas and this one I felt as though could be used for students to not necessarily have one set way to solve their problems and offer students ways to
collaborate and deepen their understanding with their peers as they move through their math lesson.
