Density Lab Report name partner name 09/15/2022 Objectives: The objective of this project is to identify different metals using their densities. Procedures: Procedures followed as written in the lab notebook. Results: Table 1: Basic Information on Each Unknown Metal The table above displays the basic information of each unknown metal, including dimensions, mass and volume.
Table 2: Volume Displacement The table above displays the different displacements between each metal. Analysis: From the experiment, the conclusion was agreed to be that metal one was steel, metal two was aluminium, metal three was lead, metal four was brass, metal five was lead, and metal six was aluminium. Calculations: sphere V=4/3π^3 rectangular prism V= L x W x H right circular cylinder V= πr^2 H pyramid V= (L x W x H) / 3 prolate ellipsoid V= 4/3 πr^2 (L/2) right circular cone V= πr^2 (H/3) Density = Mass/Volume volume of water - volume of water and metal = volume of metal Discussion and Conclusions: From what can be seen, one can assume that the displacement of water is a better method to find density. This is due to being able to find the density of irregularly shaped objects easier than taking the dimensions of every part of said object. Metals 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are alloys. An alloy is a substance that combines multiple metals/a metal with non-metals.
