Identification of an unknown metal Procedure: Your group will be given a cube of and unknown metal (labeled A3-A6, B3-B6, C3-C6, or D3-D6) They are either Zn, Cu, Al, Pb, Fe, Zr, Rh. Use a pair of calipers to measure the cube dimensions. Calculate the density using the provided lattice parameter and crystal structure (FCC or BCC) (see below), then identify the types of metal from their calculated atomic masses. Assigned /selected unknown metal ID number C6

Justify your answer and explain any discrepancies: The differences between the calculated and actual values of the atomic mass is likely due to impurities in the C6 cube.

Density of an ionic material - What crystal structure would you predict for NaF? r(Na ) = 0.102 nm and r(F ) = 0.133 nm? Body centered cubic crystal structure ii)
Calculate the lattice parameter (nm) for NaF using the crystal structure you predicted in (i) iii)
Calculate the theoretical density (g/cm^3) for NaF? Na
+ = 22.99 g/mol and F
- = 19.00 g/mol iv)
Look up the density of NaF. Does it agree with the answer you got in (iii)? Explain The actual density of NaF is 2.56 g/cm^3. The answer in (iii) is 3.543 g/cm^3. The measured and actual values differ by about 1.0. This could be because we are solving for if the atoms are as densely packed as possible. When in reality, there is most likely to be space in between.
