Using the IBISWorld Database available through Gateway Library, answer the questions for an industry of your choice Sample Assignment Report Here is a sample of what your assignment posting should look like. I’ve included the tabs I used in blue, but you don’t have to in your report. There is no need to include a citation, since all information is coming from IBISWorld. Some of the reports will have the information under different tabs, so you will have to search for it. 1. Coffee and Snack Shops in the U.S. IBISWorld Report: 72221b Date April 2021 Author/Analyst: Thi Lee (This information was found under the “About this Industry” tab.) 2. NAICS number 72215 (This information is from www.census.gov ) 3. Industry Definition: . This industry comprises operators that prepare or serve specialty snacks and nonalchololic beverages including ice cream, frozen yogurt, cookies, doughnuts, bagels, coffee, juices, smoothies and sodas. Purchases may be consumed on-sire, taken to go or delivered. (This information was found under the “About” tab.) 4. Annual Revenue: $ 45.7 bn Annual Growth 2016-2021 1.9%: Annual Growth 2021-2026 1.9% (This information was found under the “Industry at a Glance” tab.) 5. Industry Outlook: Growth or Decline? Growth, Why ? Over the five years to 2026, the Coffee and Snack Shops industry is forecast to recover from the turmoil of 2020. This recovery is forecast to happen early in the five-year period, enabling a return to stability. Nonetheless, the industry landscape may remain changed as it will take time to reopen businesses that were forced to shut down permanently at the end of the previous period.   (This information was found under the “Industry at a Glance” tab.) 6. Products and Services Segmentations . Total $45.7bn. How is this segmented? 25.5% beverages consumed in- store; 20.0% Food consumed in-store; 13.4% Food taken to-go; 15.4 % Beverages taken to-go. 6.9% Food
3 ordered via drive-through; 16.9% Beverages taken to-go; and 1.9% other. ( This information was found under the “Products and Market” tab.) 7. Demand Determinants Income: This industry is sensitive to factors that affect the growth in household disposable income because disposable income is required to finance restaurant and dining expenditures. Demographics: The changing age structure of the population influences industry demand. Two broad demographic trends have encouraged industry growth in the past decade. Firstly, the baby-boomer generation has access to higher disposable incomes than previous generations, meaning they are more likely to spend on eating out. Also, young adults aged between 18 and 30 years old are delaying marriage and having children, compared with previous generations. This enables them to spend a greater proportion of their time and income on eating out. According to the 2019 Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer expenditure survey, young adults in this age bracket spend more of their food budget on eating out than any other age group. This benefits the industry substantially. (This information was found under the “Products and Market” tab.) 8. Major Competitors and market share of each : IBISWorld estimates that the top four players in the Coffee and Snack Shops industry account for over 40.0% of the market in 2021, resulting in a low level of concentration. Given the diversity of snack and beverage styles and industry operations, nearly 53.4% of establishments are small-business operators with nine or fewer employees in 2021, according to the US Census Bureau. An additional 46.5% of establishments employ between 10 and 99 staff members. There is also a small number of an extremely large chain and franchised operators, and only an estimated 0.14% of operators employ over 100 people. Starbucks Corporation (Starbucks) is estimated to account for 36.5% of the industry in 2021, giving it considerable market power in determining industry trends. While Dunkin' Brands Group Inc. does not generate any industry-relevant revenue on its own, the brand's staggering number of franchised locations, coupled with Starbuck's existing market share, give these two companies substantial market power and create a formidable barrier for nonfranchise players . (This information was found under the “Major Companies” and “Competitive Landscape” tabs.) 9. Industry Data: Number of establishments: 2020 _ 80,641; projected 2026 _93,063_ (This information was found under the “Key Statistics” tab.) 10. Summary: This will be individualized in each of your reports.
