Maria Mendez, Carlie Ochs, Cameron Zienty, Liam Cable, Nicholas Fox 10 points possible: 1. Conduct market research and identify competitors. What is the demand for your product or service? What other existing businesses or products are you competing with in the marketplace? How will you set your product or service apart from existing ones? - Arizona State is in need of a platform that can provide information to ASU students regarding Covid-19. Providing ASU students, faculty, and staff with COVID-19 related hot spots will promote the safety of all ASU community members. Currently, there are no other platforms that we are competing with. The closest platform that competes with our platform would be CDC COVID tracker, which allows users to interact with a variety of data on COVID-19. - This platform will be noticed as an addition to the ASU app. - We will set our product apart from others in that we will provide data relevant to all campuses at ASU (Tempe, Polytechnic, Downtown Phoenix, Lake Havasu). Our platform will offer hotspots to show where Covid has been present on campus (within the past 2 weeks). Students will then be acknowledged of viable information that has not been previously offered to them. 5 points possible: 2. Find a mentor. Who has experience in this industry that could help build your project? This should be a real person who is alive. You need to identify who could be a mentor to help advance your business and explain how they would help you do so. (Please note that you do NOT need to actually contact this person.) - Mark Zuckerburg - Michael Crow Mark Zuckerburg and Michael Crow would be great mentors for our app. Zuckerberg has experience in making an app become popular. He would be able to help us make our app the best of its kind. Micheal Crow would be able to provide information about the school which would be helpful since the app is specifying on ASU campuses. 5 points possible: 3. Consider manufacturing and design. How will you create or design your product or service? What will it look like and how will it function? - Our team will implement the Covid hotspots onto the “ASU Covid Maps” app. - Once you open the map within my asu; red dots will display near your location that correspond to people who have contracted Covid. 5 points possible: 4. Explain how you will market your product or service. What is your product or service called? What marketing channels and strategies will you utilize to reach your target market and gain new customers? - The app will be called ASU Covid Maps - We plan on using Social media platforms to post info and promote out product, create partnerships with ASU alum start-up companies, place ADs around campus and around the dorms 10 points possible: 5. Develop a comprehensive budget and anticipate costs. What are your anticipated expenses and sales? How much will it cost to produce your product? What kind of advertising budget will your company have?
- Our anticipated expenses would be very few, since ASU would fund the creation of the add on covid maps. - Our app would be a non-profit app. The app’s main purpose is to help those in our community instead of making money. 5 points possible: 6. Forecast sales figures. How many sales do you anticipate in the first years of your business? Based on your unit price and projected sales, when do you expect your business to “break even?” - It would not cost more to actually create the app since it will just be an add-on to the ASU app, but there would be costs associated with advertising for the app - If our app was a profitable business, we would probably be looking at our business to “break even” within the first two weeks of offering the app. Since COVID-19 is still a relevant talking point on campus we would expect our revenue to surpass our costs fairly quickly.
