Title Slide “How Issaquah can reduce consumption behaviors.” Table of Contents The table of contents outlines this presentation and the topics we will go over, starting with the introduction, then the already existing climate change action website review, next the social connection system, then the conclusion and final recommendations, and finally, the resources used to create this report and presentation. Introduction To start, the IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) report highlights the risks and extreme temperature increases caused by climate change in recent years. Issaquah must integrate risk assessment and cost-effective analysis to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. The implementation of emissions tracking, sustainable transport systems, and green buildings can help achieve this goal. It is essential to accelerate climate actions and transition to a decarbonized world while building communities with social movements to increase awareness and achieve sustainable development. Review of Issaquah’s Climate Change Website The review of Issaquah’s climate change website. Let's begin by going over the relevant information provided by Issaquah’s website, which included a climate action plan. It aims to reduce emissions by 25% below 2016 levels by 2025 and 80% below 2016 levels by 2050, with a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The plan presents strategies to reduce emissions from transportation, buildings, and waste and increase renewable energy use. The plan does include some missing details that could improve the quality including Issaquah’s detailed financial plan and the need to improve its promotion on social media to reach a wider audience. Next focusing on the citizens of Issaquah, where the climate action plan prioritizes community engagement and resilience, with an emphasis on protecting vulnerable residents and businesses. The plan includes measures such as improved emergency response systems around community centers and neighborhoods, as well as resources for citizens to prepare their homes and support others in times of uncertainty. Social Connection System The social connection system allows for shifting to drive community awareness. This means that almost two-thirds of Americans are willing to pay for sustainable products, but most are unaware of how to identify them. Issaquah needs to increase consumer awareness through
education, consultation, and outreach efforts. Issaquah can engage with stakeholders and offer incentives to support community-led initiatives and local businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and identify collaborative climate-friendly projects. Next, is social influence which are social factors like social desirability, social identities, and self- consistency can influence sustainable consumer behavior change. Issaquah can incentivize consumers by providing quick rewards and using marketing practices like framing to promote sustainable practices. Finally, finding a variety of different examples of other successful sustainability efforts. One place where they were able to become more sustainable is Utrecht, Netherlands created green bus shelters by putting green roofs on 300 of its bus shelters and inspiring other cities to do the same. Another city including Helsingborg, Sweden reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 50% by creating an organic waste and wastewater source that uses three sewage pipes instead of one. Conclusions In conclusion, Increased carbon emissions have significant impacts on Issaquah and consumer behavior is a part of that. Using the strategies provided, Issaquah will be able to further address the issues of climate change and inform the community to maintain and build a sustainable city, The examples of other cities’ strategies, social influence practices, and community awareness will drive the goals of Issaquah’s original plan. The changes that can be made to the city of Issaquah need to be made now. The actions we take today will determine the future we create for ourselves and future generations. By taking meaningful steps towards sustainability, Issaquah can play an integral role in protecting the environment and maintaining a community. With collective action and commitment, we can make a difference. Thank you. References and Final Statements Finally, these are the sources used to create the report and presentation. Thank you again for the time to listen to this presentation and I hope you can use this information in the near future.
