At the beginning of this course my CQ assessment gave me high scores throughout. However, my lowest score was in CQ knowledge. This was because of my lack in the Socio- Linguistic section. I had placed increasing this area of my assessment as a goal for myself, but as a long-term goal. That said, I feel even in these past eight weeks I have made strides to increase this area. During this semester we welcomed an exchange student from Brazil. Since day one, I have worked at learning Portuguese from her and have been working to incorporate daily usage of Portuguese both at home and at work with co-workers from Brazil. While I may not be fluent in it, I have already since a growth in this area over the past eight weeks. I do not believe my understanding of CQ and its realities have changed over this course, but I do believe they have deepened. Understanding the realities, importance, and implications of a solid CQ has encouraged me to be more in-tune with my CQ. I understand both my strengths and weaknesses more clearly now because of the past eight weeks. As far as increasing my CQ, there is always room for improvement. Especially in my socio-linguistic skills. Though my assessment scores were high, I am always open and looking for ways to improve myself. The Word of God calls us to do all things with excellence and as unto the Lord. Bettering my CQ knowledge is no exception. By interacting with people from other cultures regularly, I hope to become even more comfortable interacting on every-day topics but more so in sharing the Gospel. The most significant thing I have learned came through the video assignment. I reached out to my brother, who has been a full-time pastor for 20 years and is the lead pastor at our church and who has a wealth of experience in global missions. I was concerned about the length of the video and ensuring I have all the pivotal information I thought I should include with the grand narrative of the Bible. I told him I can become frustrated when I am leaving out pivotal information from the Biblical story. This is what he said, “Pivotal is relative. Its not all pivotal to a Hindu that is driving your Uber from the airport to your hotel in Mumbai.” That struck a chord inside me. When sharing the Gospel or any Biblical account, I may feel all the minute details are imperative to the story. However, when language is a barrier, time is a barrier, location is a barrier, the fact is I do not always need to be overly concerned with all the details. I need to be concerned with sharing the heart of God and His story and allow the Holy Spirit to do the rest. This flipped a switch in me when it comes to how I share any Biblical account cross-culturally. Applying what I have learned through this course on CQ and in my personal life looks like many things. Again, I work in a global company. I deal with people from different nations daily. I can put CQ into practice at least five days a week. Additionally, through our church, we have opportunities for what we call Go Trips. These are one-to-two-week mission’s trips all over the globe. Our church is already marketing our 2024 Go Trips, and my wife and I are looking into which one we would like to go on. God has placed me in a position to take the CQ knowledge I gained in my time in the Army and to take it globally for His Kingdom, and I am excited to see what that looks like and what He has in store.
