Step 1: Define the Problem My problem is a personal problem. I lost my job due to being in a car accident and due to the loss of my job, I am struggling to make ends meet and need to find a way to make money so that I am able to pay my bills (Edge Training System, 2007). Step 2: Analyze the Problem The lack of a job is causing me to not be able to afford my bills and I need to figure out a way of making money (Edge Training System, 2007). Step 3: Develop Potential Solutions I am able to do temporary jobs, such as driving Uber and Lyft. I can also apply for part- time jobs, as well as full-time jobs. There are a number of jobs available within my area, though most of them are blue-collar and I would prefer something that is white-collar or grey-collar. I can utilize a program that my state has to get a teaching license and become a teacher as my state is in need of additional teachers (Edge Training System, 2007). Step 4: Evaluate Potential Solutions While driving for Uber and Lyft will provide some money, there is also the drawback of the increase mileage that it will place on my vehicle, and I am only able to do it for a couple of hours a day due to my injury. Part time jobs are usually going to be blue-collar type of work, and I have limitations on what I am able to do. White-collar jobs in my area are things such as bank teller and tax preparer. There is also the option of grey-collar jobs, such as teaching, and my state and school district are in need of teachers. Going this route would require me to work on getting my teaching license through an alternative program my state offers (Edge Training System, 2007). Step 5: Implement Solution
My solution is to apply for a position within my school district as a substitute teacher while I am working on getting my teaching license. It may be possible for my school district to accelerate me getting my license, as I will be able to be a teacher while working on the license and taking additional training through my school district (Edge Training System, 2007). Step 6: Evaluate Solution For my problem the evaluation of the solution will be simple. If the solution worked, I would have a job working as a substitute teacher while working on my teaching license (Edge Training System, 2007). I used the integrative thinking principle by looking at the different solutions that I had available and coming to a compromise with myself. I have done blue-collar work before, and while I would prefer not to continue doing it, I will if I need to. My preference for work would be white-collar, as it will allow me to use my degree and work on advancing my career. I however decided to go with grey-collar work, because I would like to be able to teach and to pass my love of learning onto the next generation (Riel and Martin, 2014).
