Discussion Assignment Unit 7 Please read the case study “Cases from the Real World: A New Slice of the Apple?” from the chapter 10 of the Business ethics textbook that you find in the reading assignment. Based on what you have learned in this unit, answer the following questions: 1. Should a company build in the inner city to integrate its workforce with the community and reduce the traffic consequences of adding its workforce to the local population? Companies should integrate their workers into the neighborhood to reduce traffic and pollution. Most accidents occur in the morning while people are hurrying to work or back home, when it is usually busy because everyone is rushing to get to work. It would be better if people simply walked to work. This not only reduces pollution and traffic congestion, but it also improves overall wellbeing because it makes people depressed in the morning. I frequently hear people shouting at one another in traffic because everyone is hustling. Additionally, if the office is located in the inner city, workers will be near it and can save money on accommodation and transportation (Byars & Stanberry, 2019). 2. Is it better for a company to support local restaurants or build its own restaurant facilities? Instead of opening its own restaurant, a business should support other eateries because even then it might not be able to satisfy everyone's needs. Some employees are vegetarians, some like home-cooked meals, still others have religious beliefs that dictate how their food must be prepared, and still more may not have enough money to eat at the restaurant unless the business accommodates them. Having a restaurant inside the company could ultimately be a waste of resources. To avoid the personnel having to travel for lunch, it can be useful to open a restaurant if the company is located distant from restaurants. If there aren't enough neighboring restaurants to meet the needs of the staff, opening one's own is also appropriate. Because of this, a company's decision to create its own restaurants must take into account its location, workforce size, and other organizational factors. In every circumstance, it will strengthen and support the local economy.
3. Is it ethical for a company to spend so much on building a corporate facility instead of increasing shareholder dividends? It is moral for a business to spend money on a corporate facility to improve the working conditions for staff members. Additionally, the building must have all the amenities required for the goods and services to be excellent. Similar facilities are being built in the offices of other large companies, including Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, and others (Byars & Stanberry, 2019). While shareholders may want more dividends, I think that companies that offer these perks encourage employees to work more effectively and happily. 4. Should there be zoning laws regarding corporate campuses? Zoning regulations would not be necessary because corporate campuses would be situated on the premises of workplaces. In my opinion, enforcing corporate campus standards will lead to confusion, especially if the local is involved. The municipality might end up establishing regulations requiring the general public to use the amenities. REFERENCE: Free textbooks online with no catch . OpenStax. (n.d.).
