Provide an example of a company that is either successful or unsuccessful and explain why. Explain the leadership skills you possess that would help you avoid the failure points in Davidson’s article. Include additional skills you might need to develop. Provide APA-formatted citations. In the article by Davidson (2008), effective leadership is the backbone of any large project. “One key to the success of a BPM initiative is the effective and sustained sponsorship of the project by senior management. Too often, executives offer their support initially, but they fail to understand the entire vision of the project and all of its associated requirements,” Davidson (2008). Microsoft is a company that developed and promotes a leadership partnership according to Weller (2019). “Create clarity, generate energy, and deliver success” are the key words used by leadership at Microsoft to create a team environment moving to a common goal, Weller (2019). Microsoft is a leader in the technology industry and has been for years. Without a strong leader with vision the company would not have been so successful for so long. Even through changing leadership over the years, Microsoft has remained a dominant force in the industry. Henderson (2021) describes strong leadership as competence, character, and commitment. I have always felt like a problem solver, even at a young age. My family had a dedicated work ethic and it helped me strive to do more. Henderson (2021) points out that good leadership is accomplished by a leader that continually learns and shares and calls that competence. Being ethical shows character in all aspects of life, but it is critical in leadership. Commitment is another trait Henderson (2021) lists as a key component of good leadership. Loyalty through good or bad times motivates staff and encourages them to keep pushing forward. I feel all the qualities Henderson mentions are key and what I’ve tried to use over the years in different leadership roles.
I want to practice better communication. I have 1:1 meetings and team meetings with staff, but I feel sometimes they do not listen. I have to repeat things over and over and they still don’t get the point sometimes. Davidson, M., & Holt, R. (2008). Failure points: Where BPM projects tend to falter.
