Coaching Theory Discussion The coaching methods used vary greatly depending on the sport. Coaches have to adjust to the unique requirements and objectives of their players, making it challenging to choose the most successful coaching theory after looking at the range of theories that were covered this week. Each theory discussed this week focused on multiple aspects of leadership but leadership styles entirely depend on the coach and the coaches teaching styles. Among the theories are the multidimensional model of leadership, behaviour theory, great person theory, and transactional and transformational leadership. Two of the theories that stood out to me the most were the Great person theory, and the The coaching process which consisted of three streams. According to the widely accepted Great Person Theory, exceptional leaders are distinguished by certain qualities (Mcarthur, 2024). This concept highlights the inherent traits and characteristics of effective coaching. Behavioural theory provides another helpful framework for understanding the effectiveness of coaching. It highlights distinguishing characteristics between inept and skilled coaches. Examining different viewpoints that provide light on the interaction between coaching and leadership is crucial when understanding coaching philosophy. The coaching process consists of three primary streams, Which were established under the National Coaching Certification Program for sports. These streams support coaches in helping players reach their objectives and needs at the level of sports they choose (Crocker et al., 2021). The community sports stream is the first one. This stream includes an overview of the sport and discusses how a coach may assist participants in improving their abilities and having fun (Crocker et al., 2021). The competition stream is the second stream. This stream, discusses how coaches may support their players' technical, physical, and mental training (Crocker et al., 2021). The instructions stream comes last. Those that require expertise in a non-competitive setting should choose this stream (Crocker et al., 2021). I do not believe one theory is more effective than another when it comes to coaching, I believe it depends on the coach and what ways work better for them to get through to their players. Have you ever had a coach/ mentor that used a good leadership approach that stood out to you? What are some traits that effective leaders have displayed?
