1 Virtual Teams: Making It Work Francis Marrero American Military University HRMT101 I004 Winter 2024 Dr. Curtis Todd March 17, 2024
2 Introduction Building an effective team as well as resolving conflicts are crucial when it comes to creating a productive work environment. Organizations that develop and implement good strategies for team building, which includes promoting cooperative teamwork, experience fewer interpersonal problems among staff members (AMU, 2024). By resolving conflicts promptly and constructively, teams can address tensions arising from misunderstandings, differences in opinion, or competition for resources. Which of the five dysfunctions of a team would be the greatest barrier to virtual team productivity? Lack of commitment is the greatest barrier to virtual team productivity. The lack of commitment of a team member can cause several problems. These problems include poor decision making, the inability to produce a productive and effective decision and creating a tense environment for all members. Creating a tense environment may cause team members to withhold ideas or thoughts about certain decisions, which will result in the lack of team contribution. What can be done to avoid information overload when a virtual team is made up of 25 or more members? One of the many things that can be done to avoid information overload is disbursing specific roles. Each team member’s role on the team, and how it relates to the roles of other team members, is clear. (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2004, p.452). Defining roles between a large team and having each role tied into each other is vital for producing effective work while staying organized.
3 Conclusion While putting together a virtual team may be challenging, there is always a way to cultivate a cohesive and high performing team. Overcoming obstacles, promoting inclusivity, and creating a relaxed environment are essential to building a resilient team capable of adapting to any challenges that may arise at a moment’s notice. Ultimately, investing in diversity and providing support to one another will strengthen the team’s interpersonal relationships as well as increase success in an ever-changing remote-oriented world.
