Human Resources and Management must work together to create a balanced learning and
development plan. The plans consist of skills required for the employee’s growth and outline areas that are needed for additional training. Human Resources should be leveraged in every stage of the employee experience. This could be through the onboarding process or continued education. Their expertise should be utilized to ensure the employees are up to date on all processes. The teams should work in tandem and provide feedback to each other to constantly audit and improve the training plans. A tailored training regiment can go a long way to ensuring success. For example, in the insurance claims business, the training should consist of many unique subjects. These subjects can range from customer service, to understanding policy and state compliances. Human Resources needs to be up to date on all claims handling laws and compliance and communicate them properly to ensure organizational needs are met. The insurance industry is constantly changing and thus the training programs need to remain agile and consistent throughout the employee’s tenure. Training can be done in a classroom, or online. They can be self-guided or require an instructor, it is up to the management team and the human resource department to understand the needs of their employees and the time they have available to pick a method that best suits them and the material. The survey data shows that more than half of our sales team has not finished the Sales 101 training. While the sales team may think they are experts in their field it is important to maintain a continuing education in all field. There needs to be to be an enforcement of the training by their management. The survey also tells us that many of our associates lack soft
