General Business My Change Experience I'm actually in the middle of change right now at work. The corporation I work for sold my branch, but all of the employees remained with the original company. We are now contracted out to the new owners. The place is run like an unoiled machine. We operate under the original company's SOP's but are subject to the new owners' operational agreements. I'm sure this makes no since to most of you. It really makes even less since to each of us at work. We are stuck in the middle of two corporation that have very different ideas of how to run a company, with no real approach to change. Different approach The first thing that should have taken place is hiring a third party to analyze the change readiness of both companies. An evaluation of safety, maintenance program, or even leadership capability should have been reviewed before the sale. The scenario of this course could have possibly led to a better change management. We are currently back tracking now to see what could be salvaged, but it is taking more manpower that takes from the facility operations. Change Management Skills In the course scenario we referred to the employee surveys that pointed at a disengaged workforce, proper evaluation to identify a disengaged workforce is a skill in itself. Like the leadership in our scenario some just don't see it. I've been at my current company for seven years and I conducted quarterly training this morning for a room full of employees that have on average 25 years with the company. Half of the employees in the room trained me but I was overwhelmed by the amount info they just didn't know. They turned every slide of my PowerPoint to a 10-to-15-minute discussion. I only used current training info and current government regulation, all info that was in place before I started
General Business at the company. One of the guys that retires in two months (36 years of service) asked how long this information has been in place. This fits the true definition of a disengaged workforce. Needless to say, but this whole class has impacted my everyday decisions at work.
