1 Effective Stress Management University Canada West MGMT 601: Leadership in the Global Context (HBD-Winter-24-09) Instructor: Professor Mosi Dorbayani, PhD February 11, 2024
2 Personal values are a set of beliefs that help you identify what is "good" and "bad" in your community, culture, or society. (Perry, 2022). Our personal values indicate how we perceive we should act as opposed to how we actually act (Hughes et al., 2022). My personal values center around honesty, integrity, and gratitude in my individual and work life. Having worked with me for long periods in the same organizations, I think my co-workers know I possess these values, especially integrity, as displayed on several occasions for which my colleagues appreciated me. While working in a bank a few years ago, I dealt with corporate politics and groupism. I was robbed of many opportunities to learn and grow as I was not a member of those groups and was relatively new at the place, whereas all of those people were a part of the organization for several years. It caused me a lot of stress. Initially, I retaliated verbally and even complained about this to my super boss, but to no avail. The problem needs to be recognized appropriately for problem-solving approaches to assist in stress management (Hughes et al., 2022). I understood that the resolution was beyond my control and started not to let it affect me and deal with it. Within a few months, I moved to another department, which eventually helped me. Though people know my integrity, I would like it more if they use it as a reference point to trust my decisions and actions, as they believe I would do the right thing. For instance, if I am wrongly accused of an error, and I oppose it, people should have faith in me that I would not be behind it as I am known for doing the right thing, which includes accepting a mistake.
