Organizational Culture & leadership 2 of 5 Managing & Leading in Business: Tiara’s Experience with Organizational culture and its impact on leadership. Overview Amazon's organizational Culture revolves around its mission of being the "Earth's Most Customer-Centric Company." The General Manager spoke to everyone, and he was delightful. Leadership from Safety, HR, and Learning shared their journey with Amazon, how they started, and how long it took them to get to their current position. One of the reasons I chose Amazon was the ability to move up the hierarchical ladder quickly and its benefits. Some Area Managers (AMs) have been with the company for years, and other AMs are brand new to Amazon. Organizational Culture: From day one, the Amazon motto at my job has been "leave the same way you came." Safety is number one. At the start of the shift or SOS, we have morning standup, where the AM gives us the rundown for the day while s/he is going over the target goals. A Process Assistant (PA) or Amazon Associate (AA) leads the group in stretches. AAs are encouraged to report any incidents, whether an injury was sustained, to determine if re-training or coaching is needed. Impacts of Culture and Leadership: Amazon's work culture is very lax. Employees can show up to work in their pajamas and have. Some co-workers use their PTO or paid time off to extend their half-hour lunch breaks to an hour. If you have the time, you can take as much time as you want or need. Some managers are more lenient than others. The lax work culture at Amazon has both positive and challenging aspects. On the positive side, it allows employees flexibility, contributing to a more relaxed and comfortable work environment. However, it can also lead to potential challenges, such as the

In my experience, organizational culture has played a significant role in shaping the work environment. The focus on safety and efficiency aligns with the customer-centric mission, emphasizing the importance of meeting targets. However, the flexibility in the dress code and break times might create challenges in maintaining a consistently disciplined work atmosphere. Leadership Style and Personality Traits: Results from the leadership self-assessment are as follows: "You lean toward a democratic or participative leadership style. You tend to set the parameters for the work and have the final say on decisions, but you actively involve your team members in the process. This style can build trust between you and your people, as they will feel engaged and valued. However, it is not great in a high-pressure situation that requires a fast turnaround, as it will slow you down. Furthermore, if you dislike disagreement or conflict, you might struggle with how people respond to consultation." (Soomo, 2024). I did things according to instructions, but if I found a better way to do the tasks, I would share my knowledge with co-workers as an ambassador. When I got some experience, I could teach the newer workers to do a proper job. I broke down the job and provided excellent advice, such as setting goals and accomplishing certain tasks by a specific time, such as hitting our Pallet Receive goal by quarter 3. This aligns well with Amazon's emphasis on inclusivity and active involvement in decision-making. The strength of my leadership style lies in building trust and engaging employees in the decision-making process. However, as highlighted in the assessment, it may not be ideal in high-pressure situations requiring quick decisions.
