DISCUSSION BOARD 1 1 Business Case The case study selected for this discussion is about Workers at Amazon who are not feeling motivated; the case basically explains the work environment at Amazon; the case study explains that because of the work expectations for the employees, there are many who feel frustrated and lose motivation because there are often when the standards are too high. So, the main issue that needs to be addressed according to the business case is that although some Amazon employees have tried to spark interest in union representation, they have yet to be able to gather enough support to launch an organizing drive. The case study explains that there is a primary explanation for this. Workers at Amazon need to stay in the company longer for a movement to develop because the company has one of the highest turnover rates in the US. (Kinicki, 2022, p.195). According to the information gained, the main issue is employee work satisfaction. According to this article, the authors state that strategically speaking, developing a human element is crucial to creating a strong and functional company. Sustainable Human Resource Management (HRM) pays special attention to the requirements, preferences, and viewpoints of its workforce, viewing them as a vital resource for the company. By facilitating the growth of enduring relationships with employees, HRM initiatives seek to enhance organizational performance. As a result, sustainable HRM shows businesses how to develop their organizations along a human development-based route. (Sypniewska & Klos, 2023). Business Case Solution According to the textbook, there are three steps to take to solve this problem. The first step is to identify the problem, and this can be done by understanding all the different perspectives, not from one person but from many workers. Second, to identify what actually causes the problem, after the interviews with the employees, there will be enough information
DISCUSSION BOARD 1 1 gained to understand where the problem comes from; according to the case study, it comes from how strict the time frames are for delivery and processing the orders. The third step is finding potential solutions. According to the textbook, the best solution for this issue is to find motivation and to understand what motivates the employees; one of the key concepts the author provides is job enrichment. So, “Job enrichment is the practical application of Frederick Herzberg's motivator-hygiene theory of job satisfaction, discussed earlier in this chapter. Specifically, job enrichment modifies a job such that an employee has the opportunity to experience achievement, recognition, stimulating work, responsibility, and advancement. These characteristics are incorporated into a job through vertical loading.” (Kinicki, 2022, p.188) Biblical Integration As Christians, we need to hold accountable for each other. Jesus was always serving others, and we are called to do the same. Matthew 25:38-40: “ When did we see you as a stranger and invite you in, or need clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” According to research, “The results show that actual working hours are hardly related to employees’ mental health but job quality, especially intrinsically meaningful work, less intensified work and having a favorable social environment, has positive effects on employee mental health.” (Wang et al., 2022, p.1) This only shows how important it is to have positive relationships with others.
