Competency 2 Reflection Jennifer Weber University of Phoenix STR 581 Mark Vitale 12 January 2024
Competency 2 Reflection J.B. Hunt is one of the largest transportation logistics companies in North America. They offer a range of services such as intermodal, final mile, truckload, dedicated contract services (DCS), and integrated capacity solutions (ICS) (J.B. Hunt, 2021). The company operates in a competitive and dynamic industry where it faces various external factors that influence its strategic planning. A few of the factors include environmental sustainability, people and culture, digital transformation, and innovation and customer service. Below we will address environmental sustainability and digital transformation. Factors Influencing Strategic Planning Environmental Sustainability J.B. Hunt understands and recognizes the need to address climate change. They have made a commitment to reduce their carbon emission output 32% by 2034 (J.B. Hunt, 2022). They have invested in renewable fuels, electric vehicles, load optimization, and other initiatives to achieve their goal (J.B. Hunt, 2022). J.B. Hunt also recognizes the risks and opportunities associated with climate change, and they have developed a climate action plan to address them (J.B. Hunt, 2021). Digital Transformation J.B. Hunt is the kind of company to stay up to date with new technologies and embraces the needed changes. The company has partnered with Google Cloud to assist in their digital transformation and collaborate on next generation supply chain platform technology (Davie, 2021). The company aims to influence Google’s data cloud, AI, and machine learning tools to enhance their 360 platform, which digitally connects shipments and available capacity (Davies, 2021). Doing this will increase efficiencies and enhance visibility within the platform.

A corporate level strategy is a plan that helps a company decide the market(s) it wants to enter and how to enter it (Growth Idea, 2022). Organizations will typically use corporate strategies when they want to diversify or enter a new market. A few of the main differences between a business level strategy and corporate level strategy are: 1. A business level strategy focuses on competing in the marketplace while a corporate level strategy focuses on business growth and profits (Growth Idea, 2022). 2. A business level strategy applies to an individual department or business while corporate level applies to the organization as a whole (Growth Idea, 2022). 3. A business level strategy is formed y mid-level managers, like the depart heads, as to where corporate level is formed by upper -level managers, such as executives or board members (Growth Idea, 2022). 4. A business level strategy creates value for the department or business, while corporate level creates value for the whole organization. J.B. Hunt uses both business level and corporate level strategies. Their corporate level strategy is to leverage core competencies in intermodal, DCS, ICS, final mile, and truckload so that they can provide superior customer service all while creating a sustainable, clean energy future. For their business level strategy for each segment is to offer customized solutions that
