Conflict Resolution Strategies Essay
Conflict Resolution Strategies
Conflict has long been viewed as negative, and is usually associated with things as trivial as an
argument to something as extreme as war, and is seldom seen as beneficial. In the team environment
however, conflict can be very beneficial if recognized early and managed properly and can enhance
team performance as well as relationships between team members.
Conflict is inevitable as humans interact, because not everyone shares the same beliefs, values,
opinions, level of education, expertise on a given subject, and social or economical background, just
to name a few. Most of us try to avoid conflict whenever possible because it makes us
uncomfortable. To become comfortable with it, or at the very least be

Most companies today are team based at least to some extent. Whether a management team or some
type of project team, there are teams almost everywhere one goes. Typically, they provide some type
of training for conflict resolution so that team members can handle those situations where conflict
comes up and allows them to deal with it within the team if possible. Ignoring conflict in any
situation does not make the issue go away; in fact, in most cases it makes things worse and can
ultimately destroy a team or a relationship and keep them from reaching the goal
. Ignoring conflict
is not managing it and should only be done there is no way to resolve the issue without some outside
help. Remember that when creating a team charter, the guidelines for conflict resolution should be
included and agreed on by all team members. (McNamara, 2003)
Some types of conflict can be positive leading to outstanding results toward reaching the team's
goal. Managing conflict correctly can increase involvement from other team members who may
have been reluctant to share thoughts or ideas due to a lack of knowledge or because they felt
inferior to other members of the team. Increased cohesion can also be realized when each member
of the team feels that other team members value their view or opinion. Conflict within a team can
also bring about increased innovation and creativity. If team members are not afraid to think outside

Essay about Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution
Throughout life people should consider developing integrated conflict management systems to
prevent and resolve conflict and provide practical guidelines for designing and implementing such
systems. The principles identified in this document can be used to manage external conflict with
customers, clients and the public. Better understanding of people's personality types is the first step
in resolving conflict. Group participation is another area that deserves attention. Understanding the
objective of the group will also help to strive towards a common goal, and help to dissolve conflict.
Personalities enter into play in all aspects of life, from the most innocent playground activity in

Conflict is detrimental to a group's ability to work together. Although conflict can never be
completely avoided, most personality differences can be worked around if you know how to identify
them, understand how they affect the group and learn methods to avoid them. Thompson, Aranda,
and Robbins (2001) write about two main types of conflict. The first type of conflict is; emotional
conflict, or sometimes called A–type conflict. This conflict can threaten productivity. These
personality types can take over a group. They bully the other members into accepting their point of
view. They can be overbearing, or use anger to overwhelm any opposition to their ideas. They can
be so opinionated that no one else has a chance to speak up or get their point across. The next type
of conflict is; cognitive conflict, or sometimes called C–type conflict. This conflict usually revolves
around the merits of ideas or plans. Although disagreement can occur, this type of conflict can be
used to stimulate creativity. Looking at a problem from different points of view can assist the whole
team in problem solving. The method is to attack the idea not the person. This type of conflict
usually benefits team functioning. The goal is to turn A–types personalities into C–types. There are
several different ways of achieving that goal. To start with, each team member must agree on a
common plan. Duties should be divided evenly and all team members must hold each

Essay On Conflict Theory
The contemporary social issue I have selected is the discrimination of Muslims in America. I
selected this issue because it appears to be a growing problem in the United States, and I believe it is
rooted in racism, making it a two–part issue. Muslim is not a race, but in many Middle Eastern
countries, Islam is the majority religion. Even though anyone from any race could be Muslim, it is
only Middle Eastern Muslims that are targeted. As someone who is in the social work field, it is
distressing for me to see a group of people be treated unjustly and experience many societal
challenges based on their faith and race. Conflict theory is one theory that can improve people's
understanding of this issue. One of the main concepts of conflict theory is that "power is unequally
divided and some groups dominate others" (Overview of Theories, 2008). In the social issue I chose,
white Christians are the dominant group, and they hold more power than Middle Eastern Muslims.
Power is not

Conflict theory not only highlights the fact that there are dominant and oppressed groups in society,
but it also addresses how to combat the power differences among groups; for change to occur it must
be clear that change is needed. (Overview of Theories, 2008). Policy changes at the macro level are
needed to ensure the major power differences between the dominant and oppressed groups do not
continue. In America, we have freedom of religion, but also freedom of speech, which is being used
to create a larger bias against Muslim individuals. Policies need to be amended that target a specific
group in an oppressive manner, such as the immigration ban from specific Middle Easter countries.
Also, policies need to be enacted that protect the rights of Muslim Americans. This is one way
conflict theory can be used to address the challenges face by the oppressed

Essay on Workplace Conflict
Workplace Conflicts between Team Members Conflict between team members will happen in the
workplace because the fact that there will have an environment where decisions are made and
personality clashes will occur. This doesn't mean you have an unproductive workforce, it means you
will have to be able to catch the problem early and know what to do with each individual case.
People are going to disagree because they have different view points, different backgrounds and a
different thought process, maybe even a different agenda for that project. People disagree for a
number of reasons (De Bono, 1985). College graduates will be put into positions of uncertainty due
to the lack of work history. This will in turn cause conflict

Using a third party will introduce new scenarios that will promote new thought process and cause
students to look at ways to stop conflict and see it coming. This helps in the way of making students
know that conversation and rationalization will resolve conflict instead of negativity (Freedman &
Adam, 1996). Several situations that cause conflict negatively and positively, here are a few:
Ambiguous jurisdiction, unresolved prior conflicts, Differentiation in organization, Goal
incompatibility and conflict of interest, (Filey (1975). There are a great deal of positive outcomes
from conflict, it can bring individuals and groups closer together, open new avenues of thought
processes that might have been overlooked. Some companies will create conflict within a group or
team to observe a managers ability to handle the situation. This is a good method of gauging
whether he or she can see the conflict coming and turn it into a constructive learning experience so
all team members are positive. More managers are being put in these positions so they will know the
right question to ask or be able to generate the correct situation to defuse the problem before it
escalates into a non productive workforce. Teams also benefit from managers properly handling
situations correctly, after awhile teams will pick up on downward spirals and turn the situations
around. All

Definition Essay On Conflict
In our world conflict is an issue no human can avoid. Whether hearing about it through the news or
through a trusted source, or simply just experiencing it in daily lives. Conflict in my definition is
when there is a disagreement or problem at stake and an issue forms. For example a conflict can be
as little as a small argument of opinions or a fight about toys between siblings, to as immense as a
war starting or starvation in certain countries. Conflict can be emotional, or it can be physical, like a
fight. Conflict has happened all over the world. Conflict is what starts wars and can create chaos
among humans. This is similar to the disagreements that took place during a quarrel between the
Native Americans and the non–natives coming into what was the Washington territory. The conflict
that happened between these different cultures was both

The definition of the action to assimilate according to Merriam Webster is "to absorb into the
cultural tradition of a population or group". But in the case of the Native Americans their
assimilation was much more forced. The kids were taken off into boarding schools that taught them
how to become like the white people or the settlers, during this they lost a majority of their culture
and background, relationships with family, and even their language because whenever they tried to
speak their native tongue they were beaten and punished. Each child was given a new name
according to the English culture along with learning English, and even dressing like they would.
These were just three of the many factors that played into the conflict between the Native Americans
and the Settlers. Out of these three factors I believe that assimilation is the most important factor. I
think that this is so because when the settlers attempted to assimilate the Indians the first time a
major event that happened was the Whitman

Reflection On Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution Reflection Conflict is inevitable and occurs all around us all the time. Conflict is
not about whether something is good or bad, but what is important is how we deal with this conflict.
There are many types of conflict and one prominent conflict that I remember in my life is an
intragroup conflict. This was in grade 10, when I and three others were working on a Business ED
project. The conflict was that I had a really good idea and I was expressing my opinion, but my
groupmates were not listening and kept constantly interrupting or calling my idea stupid. This led to
a buildup of a lot of tension between us and therefore affected our teamwork as we ended up not
working efficiently towards our goal of a good mark. The resolution style I used for this particular
conflict was avoidance. This is because eventually, I just let my idea go and just did as the other
people in my group said and suppressed my own opinions. This conflict was left unresolved and
resulted in us getting a lower mark than expected in the project. At this point, I was thinking of just
submitting to their wants and letting my opinions get put to the side. Although I did not act like I
was angry on the outside, like most other avoiding individuals, I built up my anger by not releasing
it, which in the end just went away. Also, I became less verbal and let the other three lead rather than
taking an active role in this project. One advantage of avoiding a conflict is that for a short–term, it
allows us to delay solving and facing the issue, giving us time to think about solutions. Another
advantage is that individuals that avoid conflict tend to help calm the atmosphere down and realize
that the conflict will most likely resolve itself, which was also what I believed for my conflict.
However, this tends to make these individuals deny and avoid the conflict entirely, sometimes
making it even worse. Also, avoiding a conflict leads to the opinions and needs of those individuals
get suppressed, which also happened to me. Avoiding this conflict led the situation to never get
resolved, and because of this, I still do not really talk to those individuals. So, for this intragroup
conflict scenario, I used the conflict resolution

Essay On Conflict In Short Stories
The conflict is one of the main components of the short story. It gives us two elements thrill and
attractions. Heroes of the short story Can develop certain types of conflict in all parts of the short
story. Such conflicts may be with the hostile elements or with other characters in the story. There are
certain types of conflict and each type has its own function. The first type is the internal conflict
caused by some of the ideas and beliefs that are within the parties to the conflict. The second type is
an external conflict, resulting from external forces that affect one way or the other in the protagonist.
In these 3 stories there are different types of conflict by referring to the short stories are: "Letter

Essay on Conflict Management
Introduction to conflict
The term conflict referred to perceived incompatible differenced resulting in some form of
interference or opposition. Conflict is a natural part of organizational life because the goals between
mangers and workers are often incompatible. If people perceive that differences exist then conflict
state exists. Conflict is not exists between individual only, it also can exist between departments and
divisions that compete for resources or even because of overlapped authority. However, conflict is a
force that needed to be managed or to be resolved but can not be eliminated. Unless is fully
resolved, it may remain latent in the situation as a lingering basis for future conflicts over or related
to a same matter.

The sources of Conflict The sources of conflict can be basically separated into three categories
which are communication differences, structural differences and personal differences.
Communication differences mean the failure of two individuals to share fully the meaning of a
communicative attempt. It is arises from semantic difficulties, misunderstandings, and noise in
communication channels. There maybe disagreements caused by different role requirement, unit
goals, personalities, value systems or other factors.
Since in an organization, people and tasks are divided into departments to accomplish an
organization¡¦s goals, departments may only concern on their own department efficiency and cost
controlling. Therefore, they have incompatible goals and time horizons, as a result there can be
conflict. For example, a production department may have there own production plan to produce a
product and avoid paying production workers overtime in order to cut down costs. However, the
Marketing department thinks that it is important to deliver the product to their customer on time and
paying overtime to workers is a kind of responsibility to their customers. Sometimes, there are two
or more managers or departments would think that they had authority over a certain activities or
tasks, and claim authority on the same tasks. But most of managers

Reflective Essay On Conflict
When dealing with conflict I believe it is highly important to understand and to be understood.
Furthermore, when dealing with conflict, not taking things personal is highly valued. When
discussing my current conflict, I realized that most of the problems are stemmed from a lack of
communication. Therefore, having a sense of what my needs are will then help me form healthy
strategies. Recent Conflict The most recent argument I have been in is with one of my closest
friends, Jon. If I had to go back to one year ago around the time when we met, I would have never
thought our relationship would turn out the way it did. First, you will have to know some of the
backstory. When Jon and I first started hanging out I had a massive crush on him, it was as if I had
finally met someone who could understand the deepest pits of my brain. It took months for me to
tell him about my feelings and when I did, he said he felt the same. We began to date, and things
were great up until the end of spring semester. Eventually, I began to second guess myself and I
ended up breaking it off with him. We were still friends and we would talk over the summer but we
both could tell something had changed. Changed in that I began to have feelings for him again even
though I had pushed him away and made it clear, 4 months prior, that a relationship was not what I
wanted. So, as fall semester began, I made it my goal to talk to him face to face. In the beginning of
fall semester, we hung out occasionally

Conflict Resolution Essay
Conflict Resolution
What does conflict resolution mean to me? Conflict resolution is when an impartial or neutral
person puts a plan into action to resolve and settle issues within an organization or a team. In the
business world today a great amount of focus is being placed on employees working as team unit to
increase new ideas, distribute more job responsibilities among a larger group, and most important
create a unified front and camaraderie. Along with advantages there are always disadvantages,
wherever there are teams, there is a chance for conflict. Conflict is almost a guarantee. As long as
team members possess the ability to think independently, there will always be a difference of
opinion. Conflict

It is extremely vital to the livelihood of a team for the team members to be able use conflict
resolutions or reach out to another individual who has conflict resolution skills.
Is conflict constructive or destructive? Conflict can be good for a team if the members involved in
the conflict learn some type of lesson about the issue. It also can create a solution for future
problems with different individuals. It can create a sense of unity and fresh ideas on ways to resolve
the conflict. Conflict can also be a very destructive force to an organization if after all is said and
done, conflict continues without a resolution. It creates chaos instead of camaraderie and divides
teams or different groups of people. What causes conflict? There are numerous reasons that conflict
may arise within a team. A team with many different people includes many different personalities,
cultures, values, attitudes, needs, expectations, etc.
In order to resolve conflict it is very important to follow a few steps:
1. Analyze the reason for the disagreement.
2. Create several solutions or options for all parties involved.
3. Make sure all involved agree on the solution.
4. Implement the solution immediately, time is of the essence.
5. Follow up on the situation

Organizational Conflict: The three views
Conflict 2
Organizational conflict is a state of discord caused by the actual or perceived opposition of needs,
values and interests between people working together. Conflict takes many forms in organizations.
There is the inevitable clash between formal authority and power and those individuals and groups
affected. There are disputes over how revenues should be divided, how the work should be done,
and how long and hard people should work. There are jurisdictional disagreements among
individuals, departments, and between unions and management
. There are subtler forms of conflict
involving rivalries, jealousies, personality clashes,

From this perspective, conflict occurs as a result of malfunctioning individuals or organizations.
Therefore, in order to resolve conflict, problems must be identified, causes must be analyzed, and
those people or situations contributing to the conflict must be "fixed" (Kilmann & Thomas, 1978).
This mechanistic view approaches conflict resolution as a logical, linear process. Robbins
comments: "Although research studies now provide strong evidence to dispute that this approach to
conflict reduction results in high group performance, many still evaluate conflict situations utilizing
this outmoded standard" (2001, p. 384).
In the 1950s the emerging human relations view of conflict began to replace the earlier traditional
view. The human relations position suggests that conflict is a natural phenomenon in groups and
organizations. Therefore, since it is inevitable, it must be accepted and managed. During this era, the
management literature introduced the term conflict management (Nurmi & Darling, 1997); and, by
the 1970s, the field of organization development, with its tool–kit of team–building interventions,
began to go mainstream, thus providing organizations with new resources for dealing with conflict.
Conflict 4
More recently, a third conflict school of thought has emerged, referred to as the interactionist view.
This perspective

Essay on Conflict Resolution In The Workplace
Over the past year's Mr. Diamond we have had problems with disagreements and conflicts between
our employees. I believe it is imperative that we work at helpful solutions and attempt to stop the
conflicts, and limit them as much as possible. I will now present to you my proposal on what the
conflicts are, and a solution to them.
First and foremost we must look at the reasons for the conflict
. The goals between the individual and
groups of individuals are at times not attainable. We have some people trying their best to make the
goals set by the company in order to make X many dollars per month. Things are so bad on the floor
that the employees are fighting among themselves trying to attain these at times unrealistic and

As you know there is substantive conflict that can occur in just about any issue, but its moving force
is that the two parties simply disagree about an issue. This can be a good thing or a bad thing.
Handled correctly parties in this type of conflict can create for themselves and those around them,
the ability to resolve an issue with something creative, something better than either party's original
position.
While substantive conflict, if handled correctly, can be very productive, personalized conflict is
almost never a good thing. There are several reasons. First personalized conflict is fuelled primarily
by emotion (usually anger, frustration), and perceptions about someone else's personality, character
or motives. When conflict is personalized and extreme each party acts as if the other is suspect as a
person. Second, because personalized conflict is about emotions and not issues, problem solving
almost never works, because neither party is really interested in solving a problem. In fact, there are
times when things may be come worse. Third personalized conflicts almost always get worse over
time, if they cannot be converted to substantive conflict. That is because each person expects
problems, looks for them, finds them, and gets angrier.

Dealing With Conflict Essay
Dealing with Conflict
1.1
 Potential conflict can arise when two parties or people have a disagreement on a
particular subject. For example, a person may have said he was going to complete a task which he
failed to do which caused conflict with another person or party, or maybe two people who have
different ideas on who to accomplish a task may become heated.
 Stages of conflict are hard to describe in detail but it usually starts with raised voices
to get an opinion across which can escalate into a yelling match as one person tries to get the other
person or party to agree with what he is saying. Basically conflict will stop when both parties or
people agree on something, as conflict won't usually end if there

3.1 – Factors Effecting Timing & Environment For Communication
Care should be taken in communicating with other in the workplace. Factors such as anger and
stress could be dangerous when communicating, as people are often very temperamental when
affected by these factors. Another factor could be the environment, such as a meeting, could hinder
communication as reputations and even jobs could be at stake if in appropriate communication is
used. Basically, there is a time and a place for all various types of communication and care should
be taken when talking to our peers and our bosses.
3.2 – Effective Non–Verbal and Verbal Communication
Body Language – This is important as people usually take note of how a person acts and moves. For
example, if a person sometimes scratches their nose when speaking, it could mean to other people
that he is trying to cover something up.
Questioning – Never be afraid to question a person for the sake of your own better understanding of
a subject. It is different when questioning a person's ability or understanding of a subject, which
could result in conflict.

Essay on Sources of Conflict and Dealing with it
"There is immutable conflict at work in life and in business, a constant battle between peace
and chaos. Neither can be mastered, but both can be influenced. How you go about it is the key to
success" (Phillip Night 20th century businessman) A team, theoretically, should work like a
well–oiled machine. Like a state of the art machine most enlightened people should be able to
function peacefully for the stated purpose of geting the job done. However, oil can be forgotten, a
scheduled maintenance item missed, and the machine slows or stops altogether. The same happens
in a team. If one person is upset with another person, something gets lost or undone; progress and
productivity will slow or disintegrate to nothing creating chaos

Miscommunication can be de–motivating and debilitating to a team. Miscommunication will often
result in decreased productivity and missed deadlines. When you are communicating tasks, goals,
expectations etc to your teammates, be concise and clear, over communicate. You may know what
you want and understand what you are saying, but others may not hear it the same way. As a
communicator always leave room for questions and be prepared to have to explain something a
couple of different ways and multiple times. As a listener, never fear asking questions. If you do not
understand the answer, keep asking questions until all parties are on the same page and make sure
that every one is on the same page.
Irrational beliefs can quickly turn a small conflict into a large one. Some commonly held beliefs are:
conflict is bad and is to be avoided, "them vs. us", there is a perfect solution, and one must approve
of the solution in order to accept it. All of these beliefs stem from one sidedness and inflexibility.
They are ultimately selfish and do not serve a team environment. In work teams, everything is about
a common goal or project. Nothing is personal. Suspending ones self defense mechanisms, unless
personally attacked, is necessary in a team environment in order to focus on the goal that ultimately
will benefit all parties. Personal attacks should, theoretically never occur, if one looks at whether
they are about to

Essay on Conflict and Communication
Conflict and Communication
Conflict can happen anytime of your life, it will happen matter you want it or not. In addition, it can
have both negative and positive impacts for our relationship (Gudykunst, 2004). According to Yi–

interfering, obstructing, or in other ways making the behavior of another less effective". In term of
nature of conflict
, conflict is a cause which happens by threatened human needs problem (Kelman,

conflicts. Choose your battles judiciously, saving your efforts for the ones that count.
– Evaluate the conflict players
If you choose to manage a conflict situation, it's important that you take the time to get to know the
players. Who is involved in the conflict? What interests does each party represent? What are each
player's values, personality, feelings and resources? Your chances of success in managing a conflict
will be greatly enhanced if you can view the conflict through the eyes of the conflicting parties.
– Assess the source of conflict
Conflicts have causes. Since your approach to resolving a conflict is likely to be determined largely
by its causes, you need to determine the source of the conflict. Research indicates that conflicts have
varying causes, they can generally be separated into three categories: communication differences,
structural differences and personal differences – Communication differences
Communication differences are

Essay on International Conflict
1. International conflict among countries is more likely of what we may think. Today there are many
different ongoing conflicts. International conflict is a stage of opposition, disagreement or
incompatibility between two or more states (Malek). The term "international conflict" referred to
conflicts between different nations and conflicts between people and organizations in different
nations (Mr. Turetzky lec 11). It also applies to inter–group conflicts within one country when one
group is fighting for independence or increased social, political, or economic power. International
conflicts can be divided into two branches: private international conflict and public international
conflict. A private international conflict is a disagreement

Probably, there will be always conflict among countries impossible to control. However, we
humanity has to do something to don let conflicts transform in war. Conflict may be solved; but it is
hard to control the destructive of a war. 2. There are different theories that seek to explain why
humans still fight in war. Some of the individual, state and global level theories of conflict are based
on: Human Nature or Individual Leaders, States' Internal characteristics, and Global Level System
(Turetzky lec 11). Human Nature arguments for the causes of war are based in Sigmund Freud idea
that "aggression is simply part of human nature that stems from humans' genetic programming and
psychological makeup." Realists also "argue that violence is a product of bad human nature" and
that there is not anything to eliminate this bad human habit. I believe that it is true that humans'
nature is composed with an instinct of violence (War). However, society has a lot to do with the
expansion of this bad habit. Today aggression is embedded in everything, which enforces our
acceptance and practice of violence. Obviously, as realists argue, it is almost impossible to eliminate
this bad habit from human nature. In contrast, the individual Leader arguments blame the state
leaders for wars. However, we can't blame a country's leader for war. The author Stoessinger, stated
in his book that a state head's perceptions are decisive in war (Stoessinger 65). I believe that a
leader's

Conflict Essay
CONFLICTS AND DISPUTES ARE INEVITABLE Conflict is defined as the behaviour due to
which people differ in their feelings, thought and/or actions. Collins (1995) states that the conflict is
a 'serious disagreement and argument about something important' and also as 'a serious difference
between two or more beliefs, ideas or interests' (cf. Kumaraswamy, 1997, p. 96). In general it is
believed that conflicts are the underlying cause of disputes. In other words, dispute is a
manifestation of the deep rooted conflict. A dispute is defined as 'a class or kind of conflict, which
manifests itself in distinct, justifiable issues. It involves disagreement over issues capable of
resolution by negotiation, mediation or third party adjudication'

So, it is said that a conflict can exist without a dispute but a dispute cannot exist without a conflict
(Spangler and Burgess, 2003). Many authors have highlighted the inevitability of conflicts on the
other hand it is said that disputes can be prevented or at least can be minimized through proper
management. Conflicts are ubiquitous where ever a large number of people are involved i.e. where
the human relationships proliferate (Kumaraswamy, 1997). People are the principle resource for any
commercial project today. Different project managers, engineers, surveyors belonging to different
organizations and having different needs, goals and each of them looking to maximize their benefits
are brought together to form a team. Because of these differences in the individuals the conflicts and
disputes become inevitable in a project. Conflicts are generally perceived as a negative term but it
has both positive and negative sides. Positive conflicts can be helpful to generate new ideas, make
innovations, helps people to 'Be real' and creative. But this conflict has to be maintained so that it
does not get out of control and bring about dysfunctional consequences. There are large numbers of
potential sources that makes conflict inevitable in a project. Some of them are explained below: –
(scribd) It is stated in the paper that disputes are a short term part of an

How to Resolve Conflict Essay
Conflict is in inevitable part of our everyday lives. Since no two people view things in the exact
same manner, disagreement will most certainly arise at some point in time. Conflict is simply a
difference of opinion and is considered to be a normal part of our everyday lives. There are several
different forms of conflict and not all of them are considered to be bad. This paper will discuss the
causes of conflict, the different types of conflict, and barriers to conflict. According to
Communication Research Associates, conflict is a condition of imbalance within an individual
(Communication Research Associates, 2005, p. 178). Keep in mind that just as there are
disadvantages to conflict, there are also several advantages.
In order to

For example, if you are at work and walk by someone's desk and accidently knock their pen on the
floor. All of sudden, the person lashes out and starts to curse at you. Knowing that this is not the
norm for your coworker, it would safe to assume that they are under some form of stress or have
other things on their mind. By knowing this, it becomes easier to respond in a more responsible,
tempered, and appropriate, manner. Sometimes ego can become a cause for conflict as well. There
may come a time when someone is wrong about something or they may have made a mistake but
they refuse to admit it. Because they have such a high ego, they may become self–protective of their
situation, therefore causing conflict because they refuse to admit they were wrong. Instead they may
choose to become persistent in standing their ground, whether they are right or wrong.
During communication, if the intended goals are not clearly identified, there is a greater possibility
for error and it could further aggravate a situation, causing conflict. Because each individual is
different there are bound to be clashes within certain personality types. For example, if someone
prefers to discuss everything in detail and I prefer to get straight to the point then we could have a
personality clash because we are not seeing things eye–to–eye. They may view me as being
incompetent or irresponsible while I would

Conflict Between Conflict And Conflict
For this paper, I chose conflict because it is present in nearly every aspect of life, it is unavoidable,
and knowing how to handle it is a valuable tool which I would like to investigate. Webster defines
conflict as "A mental struggle resulting from incompatible or opposing needs, drives, wishes, or
external or internal demands", but the reality is there is no clear definition of how conflict starts, no
two conflicts are the same, and they all start for different reasons over different issues. There are
four types of conflict:
Content Conflict – Disagreement caused by differing interpretations of the meaning of a concept or
an idea.
Values Conflict – Disagreements over management practices which may be value based regarding
how employees should be handled and treated.
Negotiation of Selves Conflict – Conflicts over how one see themselves versus how they are seen by
others. Often people see themselves differently than others see them.
Institutionalized conflict – Conflicts that occur due to the structure of a business or organization.
Some businesses encourage conflict as a part of their decision making process. (Lamberton &
Minor, 2014, p.266) Conflict in the work environment is common. Issues like self–worth,
recognition, team dynamics, and compensation; all provide an incubator for conflict. The most
common causes for conflict in my opinion are: competition, personality conflicts, people who
choose
