Find and send a short summary of the collective bargaining laws for public sector employees in a state of interest to you. One rule: You must choose a state different from any state that has already been covered by a student posting. As states battle to balance their budgets, there are labor issues that exist in the Peach State of Georgia. In Georgia public sector employees do not have any input in the conditions of their employment, and the right to bargain contracts, negotiating benefits, or have a say in their working conditions. Georgia is a right-to-work state, which means that unions and businesses cannot force employees to join or financially support unions. These guidelines were passed by the Georgia Legislature during 1947. According to GAE officials, teachers cannot negotiate salaries, benefits or class sizes. The state employees are prohibited from striking, but they have the right to express complaints or opinions relation to employment conditions. The GAE’s 1973 opinion does provide the employees an avenue to discuss the conditions of their employment.
