Report
1 Reflection Assignment of the roles All roles described by Belbin's Group model were executed individually when handling the project. My roles included identifying the market report objective for Science for Wildlife, analyzing its industry map using SWOT analysis to examine its present situation, and developing a blue ocean strategy that could be implemented to enable the organization to achieve its marketing objectives. A thorough individual analysis was conducted, and the appropriate recommendations were given to support the report. The report also identified and applied the three tiers of the non-customers model. Basically, the entire report was developed individually without assistance from any other person. All the roles described by Belbin were applied, and numerous strengths and weaknesses were noted. The reflection describes the experiences while handling the report. My roles included being a resource investigator, a team worker, a coordinator, and a plant. As a resource investigator, I applied my inquisitive capabilities to establish key ideas that could help complete the report and apply them. An investigator utilizes an inquisitive approach to identify key ideas that can help in handling the task (Belbin, 1981). My highly enthusiastic nature, ability to develop contacts, and ability to explore available opportunities made it easier for me to identify the key resources required to handle the project. However, excessively high optimism made it pretty challenging for me to settle on the most appropriate ideas to write in the report. As an individual with strong team working capabilities, I applied my high versatility nature to identify the key deliverables for the project and handle it effectively without the support of any other person. However, slight indecisiveness when making unpopular decisions made it a little bit challenging for me to proceed. I coordinated all the activities involved in handling the report by strictly focusing on the key objectives and breaking down the project into diverse sections, which I set the timeframe to handle. My strong problem-solving capabilities made it easier for me to solve emerging challenges in unconventional ways. Issues intended to distract me from handling the project were all ignored. Additionally, I was the monitor evaluator, specialist, shaper, implementer, and completer of the project. A monitor provides a logical eye for all the activities involved when handling the project (Belbin, 1981). Equally, I made key decisions and judgments on the most appropriate
2 content to use in the project and which to omit. In some instances, my slow decision-making nature made it quite challenging to make urgent decisions, thus delaying the project further. My specialization in marketing brought in-depth knowledge to the team, thus making It easier for me to identify the content that could enhance the completion of the project. For instance, my familiarity with the blue ocean strategy tools and the situational analysis tools such as SWOT analysis made it easier for me to identify the marketing challenge facing Science for Wildlife and the strategies that could be applied to solve the issue. As a shaper of the project, I ensured that all the actions required to ensure the successful completion of the project without losing focus were implemented. I developed a workable strategy that made it easy to handle the required deliverables. Towards the end of the project, I scrutinized the content of the entire project, identified areas to polish, eliminated all errors, and ensured that the project was submitted while in the highest quality standards possible. Critique of team dynamics Successful handling of the task can be analyzed using the Activity 6D model on team effectiveness. The model evaluates the psychological safety, clarity, dependability, meaning, and impact of a project. When handling the task, I felt psychologically safe. Taking risks was easier since I believed that learning entails making mistakes and correcting them. I firmly believed that making mistakes when handling projects was normal, and thus, all feelings of vulnerability were successfully eliminated. Self-belief and high confidence levels make it easy for an individual to identify new ideas and lay a strong foundation for other project activities (Baard and Buchanan, 2019). I highly depended on my capabilities of getting things done within the set time and meeting the set standards. A clear structure and clarity of my roles in handling the entire task created meaning over what I was expected to do to achieve the deliverables. A critical analysis of the assignment instructions and the organization under study created meaning, which in turn, had a positive impact. Successful handling of projects requires an individual to believe that all the efforts matter and have a significant impact when applied appropriately. The 6D model provides me with detailed insights on how to navigate through complex projects that require skills and expertise. Prior to starting the project, I identified key questions that could guide me throughout the entire assignment. For instance, I asked myself several questions regarding the organization's culture, my working philosophy, and any changes that I
3 had to make to enhance my effectiveness. I wrote down all my thoughts and then identified a trend that resonated well with my working philosophy. I used the Belbin model and the 6D model as the key models which guided me through the entire project. I ensured that I had a sense of psychological safety since it was the only gateway to me making crucial decisions without underrating anything or judging my thoughts. I created a positive learning experience which further motivated me throughout the entire project. Ways of improving own effectiveness When engaging in future projects in my career, there are two key ways of boosting my effectiveness. For instance, working as a team can further motivate one to become more effective. Working as a team gives one an opportunity to become a better problem solver, unlocks the potential for more innovative ideas, and boosts motivation (Ogbonnaya, 2019). It also promotes individual growth, reduces the risks of burnout, and boosts productivity. When working as a group, it becomes easier for one to take smarter risks than when working individually. Teamwork also increases creativity and reduces the probability of making unnecessary mistakes. Additionally, one improves effectiveness by establishing firm schedule goals and milestones. Having clearly defined goals and tracking the milestones achieved makes it easier for individuals to get more motivated and easily identify what they ought to do to achieve the desired direction.
