Use of Power The purpose of leadership is to achieve goals for individuals, teams, and organizations. A power leader motivates others by using power instead of influence. One of the hallmarks of strong leadership is to centralize power and decision- making. It was Alan's difficult task to maximize the airline's financial fortunes during the COVID-19 pandemic (Centre for Aviation, 2022). In order to secure his authority and power to make formal decisions, he could use the power and put in place influence tactics.

It is possible to gain legitimate power by demonstrating the skills needed for the job. REWARD POWER Rewards and benefits can be provided in exchange for accomplishing a task or achieving a goal through reward power. A reward is generally a raise, a benefit, a promotion, or public recognition.
