Report
Investigating HR: An Equal Employment Opportunity Misty Davenport PA 504 Public Personnel Administration Dr. Nasir U. Ahmed September 19, 2023
Outline Research proposal This outline will highlight key aspects when dealing with businesses and their employees. Equal Employment Opportunity is “a principle that asserts that all people should have the right to work and advance on the bases of merit and ability, regardless of their race, sex, color, religion, disability, national origin, or age .” Key definitions Embracing Diversity o Refers to an extensive organizational approach for creating a setting that values the distinctions among individuals and optimizes their potential. o Puts emphasis on creating an atmosphere that brings out the best in each individual by appreciating diversity on both a personal and institutional level. o Complies with categories that go beyond those covered by affirmative action, such as ethnicity, race, gender, disability status, and veteran status. Equal Opportunity o a phrase used by the federal government to describe hiring procedures that guarantee there is no discrimination on the basis of age, ancestry, race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental ability, religion, medical condition, or veteran status. o Everyone should have equal access to career prospects, according to the EEO guiding principle. o eliminates discrimination in procedures and policies related to human resources o ensures that everyone has access to and equal opportunity to participate
Affirmative Action o one component of the federal government's initiatives to provide minorities, women, veterans, and people with disabilities equitable job opportunities. o It includes sincere attempts to address underutilization; extensive and varied outreach during the recruitment process. o Has job-related requirements with little potential for harm or exclusion, and a fair assessment of each applicant. Findings Equal employment opportunity, or EEO, has been a significant concern in societies around the world for several decades. It is the principle that all individuals should have an equal chance of being hired, promoted, and treated fairly in the workplace, regardless of their gender, race, nationality, age, sexual orientation, or disability status. o While progress has been made towards achieving EEO, there are still significant findings that highlight the existence of inequalities and barriers in the job market. o One of the key findings regarding equal employment opportunity is the persistence of gender disparities in the workplace. Women continue to face challenges in terms of lower pay, limited opportunities for career advancement, and systemic discrimination. Another significant finding is the existence of racial and ethnic disparities in employment. o Minority groups often face discrimination and bias when seeking employment opportunities. This highlights the ongoing challenges faced by minority groups in the job market and the need to address systemic racism and bias.

o Age discrimination is also a prevalent issue in many societies. Older individuals often face difficulties in finding new employment or advancing in their careers, despite having valuable skills and experience. Legislation and policies have been implemented to promote EEO, and organizations have become more conscious of the importance of diversity and inclusion. o Companies are increasingly adopting equal opportunity programs, setting targets for diversity representation, and implementing unconscious bias training to address underlying prejudices. Frequently asked questions 1. Does the federal employment discrimination laws apply to all businesses? 2. What are the responsibilities under federal employment discrimination laws? 3. Who is protected from employment discrimination? 4. How can one prevent harassment? 5. What should be done if an applicant or employee asks for breaks, leave or other changes to a work situation because of his medical condition or his religious beliefs? 6. Plan of Action Developing and implementing an Equal Employment Opportunity Plan of Action is crucial for organizations to foster an inclusive and fair work environment. I plan to create a focus on
recruitment and hiring, training and development, performance evaluation and promotion, and diversity and inclusion initiatives, organizations can ensure that all employees are treated equitably, regardless of their characteristics.
