1 Supportive and Destructive Roles in Resource Acquisition and Project Preparation: Resource acquisition and project preparation are important phases in the project management process, where individuals and teams can adopt either supportive or destructive roles, significantly influencing the project's outcome. Supportive roles involve fostering an environment of collaboration and open communication. This includes actively engaging with team members, sharing ideas, and ensuring that all stakeholders work together seamlessly (O'Daniel, 2008). Every team member brings their distinctive skills and expertise to collaborate towards the achievement of the project's overarching objective. Additionally, they adopt a proactive approach to risk management, identifying potential challenges and uncertainties during resource acquisition and project preparation and taking steps to mitigate them (Wysocki, 2011). In contrast, destructive roles can hinder project progress and resource acquisition. Conflict promotion is one such role, where individuals exacerbate disputes within the team or with external parties, leading to inefficiencies and resource wastage (Villax, 2010). Another destructive role is prioritizing personal gain over the project's success, resulting in the withholding of resources or critical information, which can impede the project's progress and negatively impact team morale (Dye, 2011). The success of resource acquisition and project preparation relies on the roles played by individuals and teams. Supportive roles emphasize collaboration, resource efficiency, and proactive risk management, while destructive roles can impede progress through conflict, resource hoarding, and negligence. Project managers should be vigilant in identifying and addressing destructive roles to ensure a smooth and successful project implementation. The project manager plays an important role in managing the impact of both supportive and destructive team roles. Their communication and people skills are vital in dealing with a diverse team. Motivating team members to work together and resolving internal conflicts are essential. Effective communication is key to balancing these roles. The project manager ensures that everyone understands their responsibilities, project goals, and timelines. This reduces conflicts
2 and promotes progress. Regular progress meetings and updates keep the team informed and on track. Active listening and teamwork help manage these roles effectively. The project manager must encourage open, honest communication and be receptive to team input. Trust and a positive work environment foster collaboration. In case of team issues, the project manager should engage in productive conversations, mediate conflicts, and find solutions that satisfy everyone. Identifying and addressing potentially harmful factors, like unproductive team members, is also essential to keep the project on course. References: Dye, L. D. (2011).
