Think about your severe last conflict with a coworker or group member. How was that conflict solved? Which approach did you take to resolve it? Introduction In spite of everyone's best efforts, workplace disagreements are inevitable. Just recently, a coworker and I had a really heated argument. I'll share what led to our argument and what I did to make amends. When a colleague and I couldn't settle our differences on how to forward the project, tensions flared. I don't disagree with John's conclusion, but I'm certain that the results from my approach will be better. As soon as we started arguing for our own points of view, the mood in the room changed dramatically. I was able to start working on a solution after examining my own replies. I tried to make a call that wasn't affected by how I felt. As I was presented with evidence that went against my established worldview, I allowed myself to entertain the idea that I could have been wrong. Such reflection was necessary for keeping a positive outlook. Truthfully communicating with John was a difficult choice. I told him how I felt and tried to see things from his perspective[ CITATION Gre196 \l 1033 ]. It was vital that everyone feel comfortable voicing their opinions. When my anxiety grew unbearable, I sought out the team captain for assistance. The purpose of our action is to have our dispute resolved via arbitration. Our team leader stepped in as a mediator, shedding light on the competing points of view. We need a plan that takes into account the ideas of all participants without compromising their autonomy. To keep things from getting worse, we've instituted some stringent rules for internal communication. The team has established a culture of trust and cooperation via open communication and regular check-ins.
We proposed the deal and have been conducting frequent polls of employees to evaluate their opinions. By adapting the strategy based on comments, we showed our commitment to collaboration[ CITATION Gre196 \l 1033 ]. Conclusion Introspection, direct conversation, mediation, compromise, setting specific communication guidelines, and periodic feedback all played roles in my reconciliation with my colleague John. This approach helped fix the immediate issue and set the stage for further collaboration. Disagreements arise in the workplace, but we can choose how to handle them. Conflicts may be transformed into opportunities for growth and team assets via reflection, open communication, the process of mediation, and a tenacious pursuit of consensus[ CITATION Rah181 \l 1033 ].
