Appendix 1 - Questions Question 1: Describe the concept of a stakeholder in a project and give three examples of project stakeholders. The term "stakeholder" refers to a person who supports or is interested in a project. These persons include those who manage the project, provide support for it, and are personally involved in it. Here are a few examples of project stakeholders: Investor Supplier Client Question 2: Review the following scenario and then complete the table. A company decides to contract a website developer to build a new website. A number of suppliers will be approached for quotes. The company has no previous website as it is a new business. The company consists of a Board of Directors, a CEO and five other staff. Stakeholder Interests and expectations Board The website is a project that the board of directors is interested in using for commercial purposes. They anticipate more financial gain for the company. Customers Customers who use the website show interest in it. They anticipate that it will meet their demands as a consumer and be affordable. Suppliers Suppliers are interested in the website because it may one day be used to process their line of business. They anticipate that it will highlight their industry and make it simpler to follow their projects. Management Management is interested in the website since they will utilize it in their field of business. They anticipate it will make their work simpler. Question 3: Complete the table by describing the following levels of stakeholder engagement and for each level describe at least two methods of engaging stakeholders. Inform Inform is engaging by delivering information to the stakeholder. The stakeholder will only receive the information as it is. The method of engaging can be through sending messages to keep them updated to the project or can show them the progress report for every benchmarks. Consult Consult is engaging by delivering information to the stakeholder, but asking for response or feedback to it. The feedback can be something like solutions to problem. The method of engaging can be done through meeting or personal consultation.
Involve Involve is engaging by directly involve self to the project. The stakeholder has accountability and responsibility to the project progress. The method of engaging can be through being a member of the project or the stakeholder is the client that requesting the project. Empower Empower is engaging by supporting the project. The kind of support will affect the morale, or even the progress of project as a whole. The method of engaging can be done through investing to the project or lending resources like manpower to the project. Question 4: Describe three stakeholder engagement approaches Consultation The approach of stakeholder where they not necessarily have influence or responsibility toward the project. But they are involved to the project at some point by lending their skills of decision making. Participation The approach of stakeholder where they directly involved to the project. They participate in it as a member, working on the project toward their objectives. Partnership The approach of stakeholder with another stakeholder. These two will form partnership where they share accountability and responsibility in the project between them. Question 5: Explain the concept of the salience model and its relationship to stakeholder engagement and analysis. Salience model is used to evaluate the value of stakeholder. It can identify the quality and importance of the related stakeholder to the project. Their engagement also included in the model to be evaluated. Question 6: Explain the concept of the power/interest grid and its relationship to stakeholder engagement and analysis. Power/interest grid is used to assess each stakeholder's level of influence over the project. The level of influence that each stakeholder has on the project may be summarized in a grid format according to their involvement and interest in it. Question 7: Explain how to review performance of project team members throughout the lifecycle of a project. The record of progress for each project team member allows for an evaluation of their performance. The progress will be evaluated in light of the project's and its goals. The performance may then be measured utilizing a crucial variable to demonstrate the outcome of their performance.
