The Ed Tech programs I choose to research, that can be used in an intermediate ELA classroom
are Duolingo, Kahoot, Khan Academy and ClassDojo. The reason I decided these, were because
they all bring something different to the table for teachers, students and even parents. Duolingo is
an app designed for those with language barriers. It is great for ELL students because they can
pick the language they want to learn, and the app then uses AI (Artificial Intelligence) and
language science to tailor lessons to help learn at the right level and pace. They even provide a
separate learning activity called Duolingo ABC which helps kids ages 3-8 learn to read and write
for free!
The next app, Kahoot! is an all-in-one engaging, teaching, assessment and review tool
designed for teachers, students and administrators all around the world. This app/program does
cost money for teachers if they choose and has separate plans based on what you want from the
website, ranging from $48-$120 billed annually. By purchasing one of these plans, teachers get
the chance to create lessons, eliminate barriers to learning, gamify students-led learning, build
learning skills, help students master content, access your students’ progress and much more!
Kahoot is also a great choice for those who teach ESE and students who are in ESE. According
to Shari Stinnette, an ESE teacher, this app/program is also great for ESE teachers and learners
by providing
challenges that allow learners to play at their own pace and is a motivating way for
her students to be exposed to material over and over allowing them to recall information while
having fun and helping her keep the classroom focused and learning!
The third app/program, Khan Academy is a personalized learning resource for all ages by
offering practice exercises, instructional videos and a personalized learning dashboard. Khan
academy also offers other tools like the teacher’s dashboard which allows them to see briefly if

the student is on a hit streak ahead of others or if they get stuck and need coaching. Another great
aspect of this app/program is that their
resources are being translated into more than 36
languages in addition to the Spanish, French, and Brazilian Portuguese versions of their site.
The last program to be discussed is ClassDojo. This app/program brings school
communities together by allowing them to connect, communicate, and share learning in one
place for free!
Not only does ClassDojo connect students and teachers but also the parents,
making it possible for everyone to be involved. They can communicate with each other anytime,
anywhere, with read receipts, scheduling and instant translation, helping ELL students especially.
According to a source: YouGov 2021 Market Landscape Study, it is the #1 easiest-to-use and
most-trustworthy communication platform, according to teachers.
All these apps/programs are a great choice for anyone to use in their classroom because
each of them targets something different. I think that having help from these sources will provide
a better learning experience and extra help when it is needed especially for those who may need
more accommodations than others.
The tools provided are useful for everyone and I would find
a way to implement at least two of these in my classroom in the future and at home to help with
my own children! With the help that these apps/programs offer, especially for free, everyone will
be able to succeed in the classroom.
