Reflection
The learning goal for this assessment to ensure that student comprehend vocabulary and the text. Based on the level of proficiency I modified the assessment for different areas. For English Language Learner that are at a level one proficiency vocabulary was what was being assessed instead of text comprehension. The reason for this to ensure that level one ELLs are being exposed to new and academic vocabulary. This will allow them to better understand text in the future. I used the word for and a picture to help the ELL in both forms. This will allow them to use background knowledge if they have it on the picture and relate it to the English word form. This method is using students’ native language knowledge to assist them with the English language. ELLs that are on level 2 I focused on basic comprehension. Level 2 ELLs have a basic understanding for written words that tie into what they here. This means they are exposed to more basic conversational words than academic words. So, based their assessments on text-based questions where the student can return to the text to find the answer if needed. I also used one-to-two-word answers as to not confuse them with too many words. This assessment will help demonstrate that they understand that basic concept of looking for information in the text to help them answer and comprehend test questions. Level 3 ELLs I used a fill in the blank assessment with a word bank. I used this assessment because it will allow student to answer the same questions as the other student
just in a scaffold form. Instead of them writing a sentence they will answer the question with a word. This would establish if the student comprehended the text. As for Level 4 student they were given a written assessment where they could answer with one to two
words by using the text as well. In have both Level 3 and 4 ELLs write this will benefit the in word to text relationships. Have them being able to read and write the word will expand their knowledge of the English language. I used a rubric to assist me in understanding what my student learned from my lesson. It not only rates the student’s progression, but also the effectiveness of my lesson. I use all assessment to reflect on the how effective my lesson has been, what worked in my lesson, and what needs to be changed. I also use them as a reference for intervention that my students many need more assistance in.
