The concept of CQ is relevant in both my personal and professional lives. Personally, I desire to be able to spread the Gospel to anyone the Holy Spirit leads me to. America is known as the “melting pot” of the world. It is made-up of many diverse backgrounds and cultures. Having a solid CQ, I believe, will enable me to be a more well-rounded communicator of the Gospel across cultural bounds. Professionally, I work for a global company. More specifically, I work in global exporting. I communicate with different people from distinct cultures daily. My own supervisor is Venezuelan and lives in Colombia. I talk daily to people I know by name from
Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, Indian, Mexico, etc. Having a solid CQ will allow me to not only
develop better business relationships but will help in breaking down barriers that will hopefully lead to conversations about Jesus. My scores are relatively high. They breakdown as follows: Drive-96, Knowledge-88, Strategy-96, and Action-98; for a 94.5 average. I fully agree with my scores, nothing is surprising. I believe the biggest reason for this is my time in the Army. It gave me multiple opportunities to learn how to adjust and live in diverse cultures internationally and how to do the same domestically collaborating with soldiers from different backgrounds. CQ Knowledge is my lowest score. The breakdown shows that is because of my lack in the Socio-Linguistic section. English is the only language I know fluently. There was a time, when stationed in Southern Italy, where I was able to communicate freely with the Italians. I pick
up languages easily. I have been able to learn (slightly) and communicate with locals in Russian, Pashto, German, French, and Spanish. That said, this is an area for growth. I love learning linguistics, so I do not think it will be difficult for me to do. Improving my linguistics skills may not be a short-term goal (over the next eight weeks of this course), but it is a long-term goal. I practice regularly in Spanish with my supervisor. Our family is also hosting an exchange student from Brazil this coming school year. I hope to learn a little Portuguese while she is here. CQ plays an integral part in God’s story, ours, and globally. The apostles are a fitting example of this. They understood the cultural bounds between Jews and Gentiles. Paul understood the cultural differences between the Greeks and the Romans. This, along with the Holy Spirit, allowed them to freely spread the Gospel to different people groups. We, today, are

no different. Yes, the Holy Spirit can, and will, fill in the gaps that we have when it comes to sharing the Gospel. However, being culturally literate and intelligent will propel our opportunities to successfully spread the Gospel across unfamiliar cultures (domestically and internationally). Understanding different cultural norms allows for foundations and trust to form, walls to be broken down, and true, meaningful relationships to be born. The God of the Bible, Jehovah, is a personal God who desires a personal relationship with His children. Why should we be any different in our desires with God’s children? CQ intelligence will only aid in those relationships building and being fruitful.
