The thesis statement I have chosen is, “The Alaska Native
Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) and the Native corporation
system have been good for Alaska Natives.” A clearer revised
statement would be, "The Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act
has allowed for the implementation of the Native corporation
system, which has benefited Alaska Natives."
Based on the reading, there is an abundance of evidence to
support the claim that the Alaska Native Claims Settlement
Act (ANCSA) had a highly beneficial impact. One of the
primary outcomes of ANCSA was the establishment of a
corporation that was able to acquire an extensive land area of
44 million acres. Additionally, the corporation received a
substantial cash disbursement of 962.5 million dollars. Besides
that, ANCSA played a pivotal role in resolving land disputes
and distributing an additional 500 million dollars from state oil
revenues. This move allowed the Alaskan Natives to take
control of a significant part of their ancestral land and enabled
them to govern it independently.
