Week Two Annotated Bibliography Worksheet Reminders: Each of the four sources here, will need to be peer-reviewed scholarly sources obtained through the AU Library Databases. Before you begin, be sure you have critically read ALL of the instructions and that you have watched the video tutorial for creating an APA formatted Annotated Bibliography and reviewed the Model APA formatted Annotated Bibliography example . A. Topic : Enter the overall topic and/or policy of your Week 5 Final Research Paper Here 1. The policy that I have decided to write about for my final paper is The Gun Control Act of 1968. The Gun Control Act of 1968 was created following the assassinations of President John F Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Attorney General Robert Kennedy. The Gun Control Act was then created in order to impose restrictions as well as regulations on the firearms industries. This put significant restrictions on manufacturers of firearms as well as how it was transported to those who are able to sell or distribute. Not only is the Gun Control Act being important in regards to regulations on firearm industries, it was important in defining those who are prohibiting access to firearms. B. Annotated Bibliography Sources (The Gun Control Act of 1968): 1. Source 1 Related to the Historical and Constitutional Basis of the American Government’s Structure ( Vizzard, William J. (1999) "The Gun Control Act of 1968," Saint Louis University Public Law Review : Vol. 18 : No. 1 , Article 7. Available at: https://scholarship.law.slu.edu/plr/vol18/iss1/7 ). 2. The Gun Control Act of 1968 is significant due how people look at the Constitution and the Second Amendment. Vizzard (1999), takes into account the leading factors as to why the Gun Control Act was created. There are many structural issues when looking at the Gun Control Act as we look at how it affects the Second Amendment. “The Senate presented particular structural problems for gun control legislation”, (Vizzard, 1999, p. 96). Opposing views are also used as to how the policy is
interpreted. It becomes apparent that the discrepancies on both sides make the policy difficult on how the federal government’s power can act with state power. C. Annotated Bibliography Sources (The Current And Future State of Gun Policy in the United States): 1. Source 2 Related to how Checks and Balances will directly come into play in relation to your overall topic and/or policy ( William J. Vizzard, The Current And Future State Of Gun Policy In The United States , 104 J. C RIM . L. & C RIMINOLOGY 879 (2014). https://scholarlycommons.law.northwestern.edu/jclc/vol104/iss4/5 ). 2. Checks and balances are created in order to maintain the balance of power between various authorities and laws. Whether it be political parties, federal and state power, The Gun Control Act is no different. Vizzard (2015) goes over how various checks and balances on the Gun Control Act were done in order to maintain the Second Amendment. Various policies and regulations were passed after the Gun Control Act of 1968 whether it was to lessen the restrictions or to redefine the policy. No matter the side on gun policy, the goal to protect the people is always the agenda. . D. Annotated Bibliography Sources (Mass Shootings, Mental Illness, and Gun Control): 1. Source 3 Related to how public policy, elections AND the media impact your overall topic and/or policy ( Philpott, J. S. (2018). Mass Shootings, Mental Illness, and Gun Control. Hastings Center Report , 48 (2), 7–9. https://doi.org/10.1002/hast.832 ). 2. When looking at how public policy affects gun control, we have to take a look at who directly is affected. A large reason the gun control movement was created was due to the large influx of mass shootings and how the media portrayed them. Philpott (2018) dives into the how the media affects the agenda of gun control as well as looking at how a large portion of these crimes were committed with those with mental
illness. “Until all sides of the debate – left and right, those focusing on mental health and those worried about gun control – put aside their political animosity and engage in a real debate, none of our current policies or proposals will do even little to stem the rising tide of gun violence in this country”, (Philpott, 2018, p. 8). E. Annotated Bibliography Sources (The Changing Ideological Politics of U.S. State Firearms Regulation): 1. Source 4 Related to how voting and the election process impacts your overall topic and/or policy ( McLean, D. S., & Sorens, J. (2019). The Changing Ideological Politics of U.S. State Firearms Regulation. Politics & Policy , 47 (4), 638–672 . ). 2. When it comes to voting and elections of gun control you have to look at the candidate themselves as well as the location of where the candidate is. Each candidate when voted in will play a part as to how the regulations of gun control is applied in their states. “Voters’ views about gun control are now strongly associated with Democratic and Republican partisanship, but as recently as the 1990s, the National Rifle Association (NRA) endorsed many congressional Democrats (Kenny, McBurnett, and Bordua 2004). Even today, prominent left-of-center politicians from comparatively rural states such as Vermont’s Bernie Sanders and Montana’s Brain Schweitzer have opposed substantial, new federal regulations on guns”, (McLean, 2019). Annotated Bibliography Example : This is an example of how your annotations should look on the Week 2 Annotated Bibliography Worksheet once completed. Please note this is an actual source, but NOT one applicable for your final research paper. Source:

Brown, K., Royer, S., Waterhouse, J., & Ridge, S. (2005). Virtual workforces and the shifting frontier of control. The Journal of Industrial Relations, 47(3), 310-325. Retrieved from EbscoHost database. Paragraph: The political process has a significant impact on virtual workforces. Brown, Royer, Waterhouse, and Ridge (2005) studied how organizations innovate and create new technology to allow remote employees to communicate virtually. This has changed a great deal since 2005, but the important aspect of rethinking how employees and managers do business and manage assignments within the virtual workplace is discussed. As online education continues to evolve, more changes will be necessary within online colleges and universities to keep up with the changing technology and to restructure their workforce to meet the needs of students. These changes can result in new organizational structures that lead to the need for less hierarchy within an organization (Brown, Royer, Waterhouse, & Ridge, 2005).
