This licence authorises the licensee to supply liquor on the licensed premises for
consumption on the licensed premises. The predominant activity always carried out
on the premises must be the preparation and serving of meals to be consumed on
the licensed premises. Table and chairs must be placed in position on the licensed
premises to be available for at least 75% of the patrons attending the premises at
any one time. Additional approvals may be given for kerbside trading and off-site
catering. The Café has a maximum capacity of 75 people. Patron capacity is the
maximum number of people who can be on the licenced premises at the same time.
A maximum patron capacity must be specified on the licence. For information on
what documentation is required to be submitted for the VCGLR to determine a
maximum patron capacity, please see the 'Maximum patron capacity' fact sheet.
ALCOHOL: According to the National Drug Strategy, alcohol remains the most widely
used drug in Australia. It is estimated that about 3200 people die because of
excessive alcohol consumption and around 81,000 people are hospitalised annually.
The State Government amended liquor licensing legislation to address alcohol
misuse and reduce violence in and around licensed areas. These include – • All
service staff must have completed Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training • A
star rating and demerit point system for licensed venues, with each venue given a
rating of between 1 to 5 stars by the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor
Regulation based on their compliance history. All licensed venues must provide free
drinking water to patrons by complying with your liquor licence and arranging for
service staff to complete RSA training, you will minimise any alcohol-related issues in
and around your venue. The attached self-help checklist has been developed by the
Shire with the support of the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor
Regulation and Peninsula Health and can be used to assess your tobacco and alcohol
compliance. Please refer to the Best Bites CD ROM for resources on tobacco and
alcohol requirements. SELF-HELP CHECKLIST - ALCOHOL The purpose of Best Bites is
to award local businesses that provide a s liquor and safe environment to customers.
The award will go to businesses that are scored as 4 or 5 for 100% of the checklist
questions applicable to their business. This checklist applies to all public areas of the
business. Please grade whether your premises fully meets the criteria (5) or doesn’t
