International Information System Security Certification Consortium, known as ISC2, is known as one of the world's largest IT security organizations that specialize in IT security training and certifications. As a cyber security enthusiast, ISC2 is well known in the industry with some of the highest sought-after certifications. My first cybersecurity certification was achieved through them. A portion of the training for that entry level certification was heavily focused around the ISC2 code of ethics.
ISC2 code of ethics is meant for the purpose of protecting the profession of cybersecurity. Cybersecurity requires the knowledge of cyber-attacks, primarily to prevent such attacks, but also involves knowing how to perform such attacks as well. Using the knowledge gained from earning certificates from ISC2 to perform illegal or unethical actions goes against their code of ethics. It has always been a dream of mine to be an ethical hacker, using the skills and knowledge for good. Having the skills and knowledge that cause extreme damage requires a strong foundation of morals and ethics. These principles guide the responsible and legal conduct of cybersecurity professionals.
In the scenario as an HR consultant, the ISC2 code of ethics canons inform decision making within the scenario. “Protect society, the common good, necessary public trust and confidence, and the infrastructure,” the first canon, informs decision making by prompting to weigh the potential consequences of actions to the well-being of the public or in this scenario, the employees. In the scenario, the case studies show that previous decisions may not have been best for the well-being of the employees based on their perceptions. Another ISC2 code of ethics canon is, “Provide diligent and competent service to principals.” This informs decision making by emphasizing the importance of continually improving one’s knowledge and skills, professionals are encouraged to make decisions that reflect their expertise. In the scenario, the
director has asked for a case analysis to be used for future training. A focus on this code of ethics
canon can ensure diligent focus put forth for future training and knowledge sharing. Also providing inclusion of the staff and better understanding of the health of the organization.
At the dawn of the internet age in 1989 ISC2 was formed. A group of information security professionals recognized the need for security in the rapid growth of innovative new technologies. ISC2 was established to nurture the new profession with expertise, standards and ethical practices required to secure our economies, nation, and personal lives (

good, necessary public trust and confidence, and the infrastructure (

Professionals in the field often prevent illegal acts, have access to and deal with confidential information, protecting that information along with the common good is what makes this principle the top canon in the ISC2 code of ethics. This canon aligning with the care and utilitarian ethical frameworks. Act honorably, honestly, justly, responsibly, and legally (

, 2023). Aligns with the virtue ethical framework, emphasizing the development of such traits within the cybersecurity community. Advance and protect the profession (
