Overview
In this lab you will learn how to shrink and expand virtual disks in windows server 2022
Procedure
:
Power on
your two machines that you have worked on in previous VMware labs.
(Remember to delete the .lck
files and folders every time you power on your machine)
- on Srvr2022_INT1
: go to "This PC and check the size of your C drive”. Recall when you have created your virtual machines, you specified the disk capacity as shown below:

this drive - Navigate to Disk Management
Disk Management is a system utility in Windows for advanced storage operations. We will in this lab understand how to:

- Right mouse click on the (c:) drive and click on shrink volume

- Enter the number 20000 in the field "
Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB
:
- Click shrink
- Your C: drive is now 40GB
and you have around 20GB
unallocated space.
- Right mouse click on this unallocated space
and choose new simple volume

- Click Next
- Choose the size to be 10000
click next - Click next on any letter
assigned to your new drive
- Under Volume label add 10G Drive
- Click next - Click Finish

and check your new drive
- What is the size of this drive?

II) Extending a disk
- go back to Disk management
- Right mouse click on 10G Drive
- Click on Extend Volume
- Click Next
- Extend
the size of the 10G drive to be 20G Drive (just click Next)
- Click Finish
- Go to This PC
and refresh
the display, you must have almost 20G drive now.
- Right mouse click on this new drive and click Rename
- Rename the drive to be "
20G Drive
"

III) Sharing Drives
- Share the 20G drive the same way you used in sharing the folder earlier
- Set the permissions to “Read + Change”.
